I've been doing some pondering lately as to what BMW will make of the "2007" next generation LT.
So far, I can come up with some anticipated improvements:
1. A stronger engine.
2. Better tranny with a 6 speed.
3. Lighter overall weight.
4. Built in 1/8 inch receptacle to host IPods etc thru the amplification system.
5. A BETTER designed rear drive.
6. Better low speed handling. Better than even the 2005 and forward models.
7. New integrated straping points for tie downs in case of towing.
8. Body panels that come off easier for engine servicing.
9. Wear items such as an air filter better located to change it out without gutting the machine.
10. Better stock seat comfort designs.
11. Electronic ride control.

What else could be areas for improvement OR just a surprise (not including the $25K base sticker)?

Better headlights, high beam and low.
Better windshield, shaped more like some aftermarket WS such as the Cee Bailey #2 (quieter, less buffeting)
Repositioned clutch master cylinder so if it leaks you don't need to replace the clutch.
Trunk latch improvement.
Beefed up shifter linkage.
Lower low seat for height impaired or women riders.
Just a few thoughts off the top of my head.

Turbocharged 1.6 liter from the Mini Cooper would be nice.

Paddle shifting transmission without a clutch. Blasphemy!

Fresh air vents to allow wind flow during hot weather.

Tires that last 25K miles.

Cockpit adjustable electronic suspension.

HID lighting that "follows" curves. (Audi has it now...)

Less weight. A LOT less weight.

A locking sidestand that does not allow the bike to fall over.

And last but not least: angled tire valve stems!

Maybe then my wife would not make such big fun of me climbing under the saddle bags to check and/or inflate the rear tire. I second the motion.

Explain the rational behind number 2 if you would.

1. self adjusting type valve lash adjusters
2. accessible air and fuel filters
3. lower center of gravity; maybe an underseat fuel tank
4. lower weight; maybe a more compact engine using a common engine/transmission case and wet clutch
5. improved headlight
6. improved rear drive
7. improved trunk latch
8. rebuildable shocks

Explain the rational behind number 2 if you would.

If that's my #2...... I like the 5 speed, but a gear somewhere in between the 4& 5 would be nice for speeds of maybe 55-65. The current config has the 4th running revs a bit higher and 5th almost too low at least for me (who lives in hilly terrain).

Guys, just look at the K12S and K12GT as a starting platform. You know they're going with that motor, and probably suspension as well. That should take care of a few of those issues (weight, ESA, wet clutch, more power, accessible valve stems, etc.). I'm sure the headlights will be improved by using much larger reflectors (look at any of BMW's newest bikes). And the '06 Lt is supposed to have an HID option already. So I think they're already well on the way to answering many of these requests.

1) MP3 compatible radio! Maybe even compact flash slot for playback.
2) Temp control vents directed to the driver. Nothing fancy, an old 80's type slider would work just fine, and a heating coil would only add a mere 5 lbs.
3) Magnetic ride control suspension.
4) Heads Up Display for speedo. tach, etc. My Pontiac has it and once you get used to it you can't drive without it.
