Hey! (I'm from NC and we "say Hey" over here)
I'm new here but not new to BMW's. I've ridden an R1200C for years and have been an active Chromehead. I am looking for a change and have test ridden the RT and the GT as well as a new Concours 14.
The RT is truly the best of them for me even though it is rather buzzy. I'm looking and will buy by the end of the year and prefer the unlinked non servo brakes.
Question: I think I saw in one thread that some of the 2006 RT's had brakes that were not servo and were not linked. Anyone know if this is true? Thanks!

06 and 07 R1200RT no longer have the "Power Brake" Servo. And they are partially linked. Grab the front brake and you get front and rear. Grab the rear and you get rear only. The brakes are the best in the industry. (IMHO I hated the Servo)

Actually, the RT went to non-servo brakes with the 2007 model year, not 2006. The semi-linked brakes are a feature of all 2005~07 RTs - the front lever operates front and rear brakes while the pedal alone operates only the rear, and the pedal in conjunction with the lever biases the braking force more to the rear.
On my 2006, the power assist took only a few hundred miles to get used to, as did braking normally with only the lever.
When you get your RT, head west and enjoy the BRP and environs on an excellent bike!

The R1200 motor will get a lot smoother after a few thousand miles, and when you can keep the RPM up. Everyone has probably told you that already but it is true. :bmw:

I've ridden an R1200C for years and have been an active Chromehead.
Welcome! I too was a Chromehead (miss that group) and made the leap to the RT last July. While I miss the character of the C, I love the RT... If my wife would of let me have both...

Thanks for the responses!
Rats, I love the red over black paint jobs they had in '06 and was hoping I could find it in non-servo. Oh well, I'll get used to them.
Glad to hear the motor will smooth out as it breaks in. My R1200c wasn't buzzy so I was suprised the RT was. But then it wasn't a hexhead! You are right, Nitrox, Chromeheads is a great site with good people. Learned a lot and loved Pokie's tech help!
I'm looking at an '06 bike with 13k on the clock and the guy wants just a little less than KBB ($14,900 KBB is $15, 445). Private party. It seems like a lot for a bike with that mileage. But it does have a Givi trunk and autocom. No heated seats, no custom seat no custom shield. Trade in is $11,435. I'm used to offering halfway between... Good deal at $14,900? What are you seeing? Thanks.

Well, whatever you buy and I hope it's an RT, give me a holler. I'm in Mill Spring on Highway 9 just 10 miles south of Lake Lure. I'm new to the area and could use a riding partner. I have the 06 RT and have ridden extensively in the Utah area where I came from. Good luck on your purchase and you'll love the RT!

Wow, a response from just up the road and one from Bucharest!
Bruce - sent you a private PM -- Let's ride! But first I need to buy an RT. Looking for a used '07 if possible.
I wrecked my R1200C going to work in Charlotte in January. Interestingly enough the guy that turned left in front of me rides an RT and he was simply mortified. My first accident in 35 years of riding. Now that I have the money for that bike I can choose what I ride next. The "C" was an excellent bike but not the best for long distance riding, for me at least. Couldn't get comfortable on it. 75 miles tops before my butt screamed that I HAD to get off. The ergonomics of the RT are better....
Iacob, was looking on Google Earth at the pics of Bucharest and the surrounding areas. Looks like a great area to ride!
