Crack in plastics on facia panel near mirrors

Hey Folks,

Any body seen anything like this before?

I just noticed it today after about 3 or 4 hours riding (Oh yeah, the JB weld did the trick with zip ties to fix my mirrors. also a few dabs of grease helped a bit too i think)

I think the best thing to do would be to drill a small hole to stop the crack getting any larger. after that im not sure. i know i will be filling the gap with JB weld , dont you worry about that.
i will have to have a better look and see if i can get the facia away from the bike a bit so i can put jb weld on both sides of the plastic.

and to think i just got the bike back together today after a few weeks of working on it and adding all sorts of goodies.

IMNSEO, it looks like the mirror(s) have been put on a just a leetle to hard, i.e. as put on with a good hard smack, and it has broken the fascia there next to where the mirror sits.

I dont know what caused it to be honest. The two screws you see in the picture i unscrewed them a bit to take pressure off and i could not believe how tight they were screwed up.So i backed some of the pressure off.it did nothing for the size of the crack, but made me feel better.

Mind you, my ride is now getting close to 5 years old and small cracks are expected. My VFR800 stared to get cracks in the fairing at about the same age as well.

But i recon i know how to fix it. I will put some masking tape around the area as close to the crack as possible then mix up some jb weld and press it in to the crack.
When the JB weld is set, seeing though i dont have any black paint, i will just touch it up with my trusty black nicko pen.

Yes, I have seen this before... On a traded bike being sold via BMW. I am unable to enlighten you as to the cause of such however... But your comments in relation to the degree of tightness of the nearby bolts certainly may not have helped the situation. I think your idea of drilling a small hole at the top end of the crack is a sound one and I wish you luck with the weld. Let us know how you go...

I just finished repairing the cracks.
I put some stickytape as close as i could to the crack on all edges, to "mask" the area off.
Then whipped up some JB weld, and kept whipping till it got quite thick. then every gently applied some using a paddle-pop stick cut in half and pressed as much in to the hole i drilled as well as the crack as possible.
i wanted it thick to help prevent it running.
the after a few minutes i removed the sticky-tape and as i had masked the area off, there is a very thin grey area of JB weld left covering the cracks.
Tomorrow afternoon when i return from work, a quick hit on the dry JB weld on the bike with a Black Nicko pen, and all will be good again!

I have been looking at the crack for at least a month. It hasn't gone worse so I do think it is because of putting the mirrors on too hard. In any case I recommend that everyone be more careful when putting on the mirrors. If they will not go on easy, you need to use grease and if that doesn't work, then you need to fix. I just had to do this. I believe I put too much effort into getting the mirrors on and should have fix sooner.

I checked the JB weld covering the cracks this afternoon.

All looks great.

Just got to get the black nicko pen to it to hide the grey colour and put the mirrors back on and the side wind deflectors!
