I just found a site called SmugMug.com. I have already put more than 3,000 uncompressed photos in my photo album I am building there (over 1000 of them are motorcycle trip photos). I am approaching 3GB in total storage and I expect to have over 8,000 photos when I get done.

Lots of features:
Unlimited Photos
Privacy Options
No ads or spam
Complete backup
Prices start at $39.95 year

I guess it's a cool enough site. But I have experienced times when the site was completely down, or it would be really slow. That's not too fun.

That's probably a rare occassion, Joe. Smugmug is one of the more reliable photo sites. It was started by Baldy, same guy that runs advrider and dgrin. He knows what he's doing.

On the other hand, you gotta love the viral marketing approach. "Hey,smugmug is great, use my coupon code XXXX (so I get my kickbacks!)"

Cheers,

I use it, but the down time is high in my experience. Unless the recent outages were for upgrades, then I could understand.

My experience has been about 15% since sign up.

Still seems like the best option though.

I have used it for a couple of years now and really like it. The only times I find that it is down is when they upgrade servers. I have the professional version of it and have thousands of pic's on it.

I have been using it a lot for days now because I am uploading thousands of photos on a slow connection.

So far the performance has been pretty good. I have noticed some slow downs, but I didn't research whether it was a network issue or an issue with smugmug. Over all, I have been very pleased. It is difficult to find a hosting site that will provide that much storage area... particularly for only 40 bucks a year.

I estimate that I will have 8,000 photos on there when I get finished. The backup service they offer is good too. The only thing that would be better is if they backed up all of the descriptions and comments for every photo. This is important to me because we are using it as a photo sharing site in our family and we have many old photos (over 100 years old) that we are trying to determine the origin of the photo.
