Hints For The V-1

Just ordered my V-1....I know alot of you have them-any and all tips for installation and sharing it with the cage would be GREATLY appreciated!!!!!

I use velcro on the bottom of the V1 and some on the dashboard of the car with silicone seal. (high heat for dashboard) Then velcro inside my waterproof box. You will of course need 2 power cords. Pay close attention to the phone like plugs color coding. The different color wires go to different positons on the plug sometimes. I had 2 different plugs from various V1's and the red and green wires did not go to the same position on the plug and it would not work on the bike.

If you expect it to be useful on the bike, then you need either an intercom hookup, a Radar Screamer, or a HARD LED system. The V1's volume alone will get drowned out at higher speeds, which is when you need to be able to hear it clearly . . .

And you will need to deal with rain. Your options are:

1) Never ride in the rain, ever.

2) Remove the V1 and stow it someplace safe (a velcro mount is handy here, which also gives you the ability to remove and pocket the detector in between when it goes off and the nice officer pulls you over).

3) Use a sandwich baggie, or one of those elasticized bowl covers which are easy to put on.

3) Get a clear, custom-molded Radar Cover from LegalSpeeding.com.

4) Get a Radar Box from LegalSpeeding.com. This box is made by Hoon Hardware who used to make a locking shelf setup for the LT as well, though I don't think that is in production any longer.

5) Make your own cover box, as some here have done.

And always remember, a radar detector gives you additional information about the road ahead, but doesn't give you a free pass. :)

Are the power cords proprietary or can you Radioshack them?? Not riding in the rain is just a fantasy in Ohio and I plan on using it to know when to yield to law enforcement...my way of support :D :D
