Although not a dealer, I found Omar Sayied at MotoGhost (MotoGhost.com) in Phoenix to offer an excellent service alternative. He has the special BMW tools. He lacks the BMW software to read the Moditek fault codes on more modern bikes, but more than makes up for it with a comprehensive knowledge about BMW's.
Most important to me is he takes the time to do the job completely and correctly. Not much, if any cheaper, than a dealer but I didn't pull away from my recent 2K/annual/two year service wondering whether a novice tech had shortcut something or just looked at a computer readout and pronounced it good.
