Has anyone tried the Instrument Visor from A & S BMW? It states that it will solve the reflection problem on windshield at night and sun glare on instruments during day. Any input will be appreciated. I love gadgets, but only if they work.

I have not tried it but sounds like a nice idea. Have you run across anything to cover or paint the area around the key? I get a lot of reflection from that area with the shield up on a sunny day.

A lot of us use the BMR Co-Pilot Shelf to mount Farkles and the Co-Pilot acts as a Visor and prevents WS Glare from the Instrument Cluster.

I use this.

I Velcro my radar detector to it and it works great. It reduces the glare and looks good to. It was easy to install, but drilling holes makes you think twice. After doing it I would do it again. I have my GPS, Ipod and Chatterbox all mounted on a separate bracket over the stingray.

Craig,
That shield does look good, but I'm not sure I have enough nerve to drill holes in the dash of my '05. Thanks for your input and I will "sleep" on it.

... solve the reflection problem on windshield at night and sun glare on instruments during day....

Get some Gila River Static Cling Window Film from Autozone (>$10) and cut a shape to cover the instrument panel. A cheap easy fix that works. and it can be pulled right off if needed after dark.

Hi,

if you are also thinking about replacing your windshield I have CB #2 -4 that's dark tinted. You can see it in Gallery under title "Truly Custom LT". This windshield effectively reduces glare from instrument panel in addition to being a great windshield. It has a slight curve built into it - the idiot lights hit right on this curved part of windshield and that distorts the reflection by making it very thin and hardly visible at all. I used to be bothered by this problem a lot before, but is not an issue anymore. I do not know if other sizes of CB windshield (or even same size that's not tinted) will work as good - I only have experience with this one. Also, I am 6' tall if that helps.

I personally wanted to keep my dash as clean and unclutterred as possible, so I did not considered any shelf systems. I have painted parts of my dash in carbon-fiber pattern and I do not like the idea of drilling the dash. But those look very effective in reducing glare, too.

Hey Dave,

Does the BMR Co-Pilot Shelf require drilling any holes? I want a shelf, but I don't want to drill any holes if I can get away with it. When I was considering the R1200RT I saw a shelf that mounted to existing hardware; is there anything like this for the LT?

Thanks

Hey Dave,

When I was considering the R1200RT I saw a shelf that mounted to existing hardware; is there anything like this for the LT? YES, but it doesn't have the mounting options like the BMR shelf does. Talk to you local :bmw: dealer.

Thanks

Bob,

The three holes that mount the BMR shelf shouldn't cause you to not consider it. It is a farkle that you can add to list of things that are on the bike if/when you decide to sell it. If you keep the the BMR shelf and go to another LT, all you have to do is swap the windshield motor cover with the one you buying and VIOLA, you have a BMR shelf on you new LT. This will only be good until BMW changes the styling of the LT in the future.

I too have the RMH visor. Drilling into the LT is no big deal. Especially when you realize that once you have the visor, you or the next guy won't be removing it anyway. Not unless you upgrade to a better shelf system (ala the BMR Co-Pilot). And even though you're "not supposed to", I use my RMH visor as my GPS shelf. I even have my garage door opened on the bottom-side of it. A triple-purpose add-on for $56?...I ain't mad at nobody. :)

(This pic was taken in Montana...where those speeds are "legal". Um...kinda.) ;)

No...I did NOT! :D

What Steve's referring to here is, when my Bridgestone rear tire delaminated...I first detected it when I saw my GPS wobbling left-to-right on my RMH visor. Just another one of it's great features. :thumb:
