Alton Brown is back August 4th on the "Food Network" with Feasting on Asphalt 2 The River Run. I really enjoyed the first one . Catch it if you can this summer .

Hey, thanks for the heads up. I really enjoyed the first series. It really had a nice perspective on the ride as well as just the food.

Awesome, thanks for letting us know! I really enjoyed the first series, so much so I went to a couple of his stops while at CCR and on my cross country trip last year (Shirley's Soul Food in Toccoa, GA, and Ted Drewes Frozen Custard in St Louis, MO).

Bob Wooldridge of BMW of Atlanta helped Alton with the expose!

I think that they started at the north end and worked their way down; I don't remember what he said!

He hopes to avoid another brain sandwich!

Thanks for the heads up. Enjoyed the first one.

I have gotten into watching his "Good Eats" show frequently now. I have learned more about the science behind food and cooking in the past year than I have ever learned watching other cooking shows. One smart guy. A little frenetic at times, but entertaining while teaching. I like learning the technical "whys and why nots" about food and cooking.

His show is about the only cooking show I watch any more. Used to watch Emeril, but got tired of that one. My wife likes Paula Deen, but I cannot listen to her more than 5 minutes. I grew up in the south, but come on!

Looks like they started south, and headed north. http://foa2.blogspot.com/

Read his comments about the alligators. :rotf:

Also looks as if this one will be titled "A taste of Tarmac", or is just the title of his blog?

Also from the blog, he is riding a GS1200 this year!

The most recent issue of BMWMOA has a good interview with Alton Brown. He discussed the new series, how excited he gets when the Aeorstitch catalog arrives in the mail, and how his LT is his new favotite bike! Both "Feasting" series will be available on DVD for Christmas. He hints that a third MAY be in the works.

I have the same problem listening to Paula Deen because she really goes over the top with it, but, to a much lesser extent, they (we) really do talk that way. You have just been away too long.

I think I have watched only one of her shows in it's entirety - and that was the one she did where she was cooking for her biker friends that were coming over. She fixed "drunk chicken" on the grill. The bikers showed up with their leather vests covered in buttons, ate and then took her for a ride on their BMW's at the end of the show.

Alton Brown is one of my favorites too. Funny thing - I asked my wife the other night (while watching AB) - that if it were possible to have one of the Food Network 'stars' cook a complete meal for us, who would she pick. Neither of us picked AB.

Alton's show by it's nature concentrates on one component of a meal or an ingredient and explores it in depth. Most of the rest of the shows are themed around entire meals and how to put together an end to end experience. Much more appealing if you wanted one to cook a meal for you. I always wanted Alton to do a show on putting it all together. That would be interesting.

Last night he cooked a turkey in an out side turkey fryer. I watched him build a turkey lowering derrick out of step ladder and a pulley system with a rope. You won't see that on Emeril. A couple of weeks back he made a back yard smoker out of two large clay pots and an electric hot plate. Having spent a lot of years in the restaurant business as a chef, I too like the basic chemistry he incorporates into his shows.

Agree that is would be interesting but I don't think he could inject his brand of off-beat humor with the time limitations imposed. Without his slick asides, I am not sure I could watch him just prepare a meal.

The EVOO lady pulls it off because she is a cook, not a chef - and, to her credit, she does not claim to be. I kind of like watching her, but she drives my wife crazy. If you tied Rachel's hands behind her she would not only be unable to cook - she couldn't talk either.
