Help with Garmin 276C problem

Today on the first leg of a trip to West Virginia I noticed the screen had changed to a dimly lit title page that shows the satellite picture and the Garmin 276C title.Taking the battery out is the only way to close that screen.None of the buttons respond.Hooking it to the bike without the battery it does the same thing.Is this a software problem?Is there anything I can do out on the road?

Just so everyone will be aware."John" at Garmin says the unit has crashed and will have to be sent to them to fix.Had to hold on for 20 minutes to find that out.Just goes to show me I rely too much on the GPS and need to go back to the old fashioned map.

I dread that happening myself. When I first got my GPS I made backup paper maps but I have come to rely on the GPS and don't go through those motions anymore.. Good luck..
