On a local ride a few days ago, at a stop light, I pulled behind a "summer Rider" HD (no protective gear or helmet) and acknowledgements were made as I stopped behind him and off to the left. I was in town, where I generally keep the FLICKER activated on my high beam that modulates the light. I rarely use it on the interstate, but in quickly merging traffic or town at intersections, I leave it on. He proceeded to chew me out and said that the flickering high beam was "stupid." The light changed and I just waved.......

I know it can be annoying and I try to not to ride behind anyone for any length of time with it on, but it did it's purpose with him and seems to get most peoples attention. Guess I'll be stupid!

Guess you coulda chewed him out on how stupid HDs may be, or how he was dressed, etc, if you wanted to return the favor? I don;t care for modulators, but won;t tell anyone else that if they have one. I understand your choice and am not about to berate you for it.

Geez, the whole thing about America is "freedom", whther it's to choose a modulator or a BMW or an HD. Then to get chewed out and spit at (the other thread), is just ridiculous.

Grrrrrrr...... Why, if I ran the world........!!!!!

I agree that modulators are very annoying.

Isn't that their job ? If I've annoyed you then you damn sure know I'm there.

Can't be any worse than those LOUD pipes...

I don't have a modulator by the way.. HID BABY !!!!

I saw the ULTIMATE summer rider yesterday. Both driver and passenger in swim suits, and Flip Flops! Not even wearing shirts. Was in Oregon - so they did have helmets...

I just let it roll off my back and waved. Pointed to my ears, pretended I could not hear him and I think that just made him madder..... Seems that when you smile it gets um confused.

"blah, blah, blah, Harley riders are this, Harley riders are that". LMAO.
What are you guys feeling so insecure about anyway?
You can't stereo-type an entire group of people because of anything, skin color, religion, sexuality whatever (except when they're a Liberal :p ).
These threads are just plain offensive and against the spirit of riding in general.

Um, yeah, that's who we were talking about. You know, those "commie lib's." Also, being this "insecure" is actually a disease. So now, we're members of a special protected class!

When you talk about offensive being against the spirit of riding in general, is that a bad thing?

Hi Jay. I appreciate you trying to paint me as a conservative nut-job, instead of taking on any of the issues. I didn't actually say anything about Liberals in this thread, but hey, if it makes it easier to obfuscate the points I'm trying to make, O.K.
What I'm talking about being a bad thing, is to continue these ridiculous "we're better than they are" threads. First, we all ride bikes. Second, there is no such thing as a perfect machine. Third, I would hardly enter into a bar bet with someone about the dependability of my LT as compared to their (insert brand here) bike. In short, all these HD bashing threads (with plenty of GW bashing thrown in for good measure it seems) do is cause division and truthfully, sound to me like guys who are insecure about "their brand". I can honestly tell you that HD makes a great product, and I've got riding buddies who have '05's with over 40,000 trouble-free miles on them - and don't forget, they can sell theirs and turn around and buy an 06 or 07 LT (not that they would mind you) with only a little cash down.

So in short, I guess I just don't see the point of these threads.

Thats what I would have done !!
I would have yelled back also "turn off your noise maker so I can hear you " :)

Oh no, I'm totally tongue in cheek here--just like all the H-D bashing threads (maybe ALL the threads). Having a little fun and blowing off a little steam. My philosophy is: whatever floats your boat, ride it!

No problem with conservatives, either. Hell, I'm a libertarian nut job!

But you're right, no need to make this yet another us-against-them political thread. :)

As to the HD issue, I'm torn. On the one hand, it's more people out on two wheels instead of another oversized pickup or SUV clogging up the roads. Even if they're garage queens or trailered everywhere, at least it's another bike owner. And solidarity is good, especially when you're in a very small minority to begin with.

On the other, I find myself regularly annoyed by large packs of hogs that like to run 5 below the speed limit, effectively clogging up the roads anyway as there's just no way to pass. And my rule is, the louder your pipes, the faster I'm gonna pass you. Never mind the fact that when children see a bike coming, they cover their ears and duck. Any bike, as they can't really distinguish the too-cool crowd from the rest. There's also the annoyance of an absurdly loud bike blipping the throttle for no reason, and setting off car alarms at midnight (a regular occurence near my house). Plus, these open pipe - small penis folks are attracting a lot of legal attention, which is now starting to come down on all bikes.

So yes, they're riders, but as a group they have chosen not to blend in, and in fact to specifically annoy most of the populace, as well as most other riders. If that annoyance occasionally surfaces in forums like these, or out on the roads, then so be it.

All with a shit-eating grin on our faces, guys! I love all my liberal buddies in So Kali....and everywhere else also.

Hey, Ken, this is the greatest owners group web site on the internet--of any description. Hope everyone is having half as much fun as I am.

Yeah, but there's a big difference between a sarcastic comment about Liberals and the venomous posts regarding other riders. If someone is an a-hole then fine, but they should (IMO) be judged by who they are and not lumped in with an entire group - and as you say, they don't really want to belong anyway, so in reality most of the "group" probably wishes they would just go away anyway, right?
Now, back to the Left Vs. Right discussions! :p

Well, I never take someones' feeble attempt at a little humor as sarcastic or venomous. BUT, I guess my one small feeling is not very sensitive, either.
