I am going to take a day ride over to the Jasper Arkansas area Thursday assuming I can get the duck tape to hold the snorkel on.
Never been to the area, but notice there are some twisty-like roads and small mountains.
Any good places for lunch in the general area?

Down town Jasper has a burger joint on the square. We all gathered up there one weekend, wasn't bad. ;)

And they have very good pie at the cliff house. And there are loads of fun twisties around Jasper. I went down there two years ago with a group of Triumph Tiger riders and we had a ball for three days picked a different route each day 200 to 250 miles each day.

Yeah, it looks like some fun roads around there, but alas, this is only a day trip for me and Jasper is essentially my farthest point east before heading back to OK.
I'm trying to hit as many "good roads" as I can, but there will always be another day to catch the others, right? :)

Shawn,
I just remembered. The CCR website from 2001 has a bunch of riding route throughout Arkansas.

When are you going, Shawn ?
The Hub is also right up that way, Where we last had the Peckergnat reunion..
I guess that got flooded out this year.
Not that I'm recommending the resturant. Don't get me wrong, It wasn't bad or anything like that. Nobody died, but it's not 4 star either... But it was a good place to meet up and a fairly clean, inexpensive room.
We need to take a nice ride as well..
John.

Hi John!
Well, I am going to head out in the morning around 0600 provided Hiway 60 stays open to the MO border.
I just couldn't stand not riding somewhere - I rode in rain the whole month of June and just need to stretch my legs a bit and see some new roads... :)
I imagine you guys could use the same...
Happy 4th to you and your better half !!

Well, that was a fun ride... Got rained on (lightly) a few times and near drowned once; temps ran from 74 in the morning to 92 in the afternoon....
Saw a few deer and couple good ol' huntin' dogs...
I have never been real good on the twisties, but I am better now - good grief, they just kept comin' and comin'. Some really nice roads with almost no traffic - well, there was that on chicken truck and the guy driving his brush hog to town with kids on it...
Anyways, the twisties go on for miles and miles - repetition is the key to learning and I think I have it now... At least better than before! Sometimes I was wishing they would quit so I could gather myself, but here they come again! Only downside was the roads didn't have any shoulders at all.
Ate a late breakfast at the Cliff House Inn 6 miles south of Jasper - decent food, but a great view looking out over the valley....
20 miles from home the sky ahead darkened significantly - this wasn't going to be pretty. So I pulled on to the shoulder, put on the Frog Togg tops, threw everything I wanted to keep try in the trunk. Visor down, full steam ahead!
The wind (crosswind of course) was whipping the rain so hard on the road it made the road look white. About a mile intot he storm, it was raining so hard that I couldn't see anything, so I had to turn on the flashers and pull onto the shoulder - drove there for a mile or so.
Anyways, once I could see (it was still raining really hard), I pulled back on to the highway and gave her the spurs and we blasted on down the road at 70 - Avons held rock solid!
Whole storm lasted 5 miles - just enough to thoroughly soak me.
What a great day! Bike was flawless...
Thanks to all who gave me some tips -- I'll have to go bacl and catch some more roads up around Eureka SPrings next time...

Goood on ya, bro - wish I'da had your back. Love them Nawthurn AR roads. You stop in at Bentonville BMW??
Next time, leave Bentonville and take 62 over to Eureka Springs. Now you talk about tail waggin' the dawg!!! Some rollercoasters could take a lesson from 62!!!
I'm hopin' El Jeffe does one of his annual E.S. gigs this year. I haven't been hardly anywhere and like Woody said the other day - sure would like to O.D. on some twisties up there in Nawthurn AR.
Glad you had a good ride, Shawn. I keep forgettin' Bartlesville is missin' a few twisties in the 'hood!!! And you didn't let the rain slow ya down much - that's good. I'da thought you would've run into some high water flooding up in the NE part of OK - my sis in Miami has 8' of water in the house, in what is turning out to be the second worst floodin' in Miami EVER!! The Neosho River, plus a coupla good size creeks, have gone outta their banks - whole town is a mess. Glad you didn't go that direction.
Best.

Definitley no twisties here, unless you count the on/off ramp clover leafs down in Tulsa... ;)
A couple places the lake (oolagah or Grand) was right up to the road or river was running just under the bridge - a bit creepy feeling for some reason...
I never hit any high water - I skirted around the top of Grand Lake through Bernice and by Darryl Starbird's musuem on the way to Grove - Grand sure had a lot of trash (trees, logs, etc) in it though, wouldn't be out there in a boat this weekend...
I bypassed Bentonville this go round - I was through there before they open. I'll catch them next trip - I like those guys.
Sure sorry to here about your sister Dick - they are having some really tough luck over there. I hope things work out ok for her. I guess your mom is doing ok?

The Cliff Inn is a must do. I ride there at least once a year just for pie. You have to try the "Company Coming" pie! Rode up there last month for my coffee & pie.
