It's been a while since I installed HID kits on an LT. Last install was on an R1200GS.

I know there is a quicker way as described by several. I do it my way :) .

Took off the windshield, the cover below it, the windshield motor bracket and proceeded to take the dust cover off. The kit is one of the newer ones with the slim ballasts and separate igniters. There is a waterproof grommet that is larger in diameter than what I was used to dealing with. I used a 7/8" wood boring drill bit and that was perfect.

I had to install two kits for a friend. High (H3) and low (H7) on a 2003 LT. The low was easy. The high, necessitated drilling out the black bulb holder base to pass the wires through. The kits that I used to install before came with a spacer. None on this kit and i did not want to cut the grommet or take the connectors off. I was able to use the original spring and wedge it against the HID bulb base and push the bulb far enough forward to position it like it came from the factory. If you don't get the bulb in the right depth, you will end up with a halo with a dark spot in the middle.

I did also have to route the negative wire and attach it to the map light ground wire that was not being used due to the BMW Nav I. Put the ballasts on top of the headlight and the igniters behind the speakers attached to the nose cone fairing.

Tested everything and all works. Buttoned up the LT and parked it in the garage.

Tomorrow, I'll install a set of J-peg tip over bars and that should be it.

Raffy, I thought I'd try your method for the HID install, I took off th windshield but am having a problem removing the cover below it. I removed the 4 screws in the base and the 2 screws on the sides of the motor lift arms but I must be missing something, the cover seems to be hung up in the center. Is there a screw inside the map light area/ If so how do I get to it?
Thanks, Wayne (wyorock)

Yes. the 7th screw. It's in the 11 o'clock position.

5 bolts to remove the windshiled motor bracket. cut the zip tie that holds the windshield motor wiring to the subframe tube. You will need to raise the windshield full up to be able to remove the bracket and motor. Tilt/rotate it left to right while pushing on the back of the instrument cluster gently.

Thanks again Bro!!! The lights work great!! Rode home from San Fran Sunday night and there is no Halo on the high beam. Have to use that high beam sparingly. It is CRAZY bright:)

Thanks Raffy, once I located all the screws and figured out how to snake the windshid motor bracket out it made for a easy and neat install. it was nice to be able to locate the ballast above the headlight where it is protected from the elements. I think I could do it again in under an hour now that I've done it once . This was the low beam Fashtek kit

Glad you were able to do it this way.

You are welcome. I just thought about a way to secure the high beam HID bulb. I have to develop it now that i have read several filling the black plastic with RTV etc.

HID-Online.com does have a special spacer that they custom made for their kit. Their kits come with bare wire ends so they can pass through their spacer. Then the connectors are installed on the ends.

My idea is simpler and will work with any kit I have seen/worked with. Now if I can conert the thought into actual product is another issue.

I just tried Raffy's 'trick' of removing the windshield motor bracket on my '05 but there is a support bracket from the subframe to the instrument cluster that doesn't give and not enough room to squeeze the motor bracket through. So maybe the '05 is a little different?
