I'm posting this horrific boating accident to illustrate the fact that the boater ran into an object that was on land.
:v: WARNING THIS PICTURE IS GRAPHIC!
Think about it this, we have a greater chance of slamming into objects on land than boaters do! The guy did live and looks like it turned into a happy ending - in theory.
This is an actual emergency room photo of a fisherman who lost control of his high-speed bass boat in West Virginia. Game warden's believe that he was traveling at a speed of approximately 75 mph at the time of the accident. He was unable to negotiate a curve in the narrow waterway. Unfortunately for him, upon striking the shoreline and being ejected from the boat, he landed back end first on an old fence post.
You can probably picture what happened next, but the attached picture really says it all. The good news is that after about 6 months, this man made a full recovery after suffering a shattered hip, broken leg, several broken ribs, internal injuries and soft tissue damage. Doctors credited his recovery to the fact that the post lodged itself so tightly that there was little or no blood loss.

I saw that pic with "motorcycle accident" a couple years back. It's nasty no matter what happened.

Here's what snopes has to say about this picture:http://www.snopes.com/photos/gruesome/splinter.asp
Bottom line is that it was a freak truck accident where the post came up through the floor boards. The guy died.

Not a very sanitary looking operating room either. No face masks or hair nets?

You can probably find that same pic on every forum on the internet.
"Man killed when levitation beam from flying saucer over Area 51 failed during mid-abduction, dropping him on telephone pole."
Personally, I think the photo is a doctored up phony. No blood? One would think the fact that the pole went through his body and out his side would at least carry a few vital internal organs out with it. Plus, the "exit wound" would be a bit more ragged, wouldn't you think?
Oh, and if it is real, the guy was riding his motorcycle on a bass boat when it happened.

. . . if we're not careful.
Motorcyclists are probably the most vulnerable to being impaled, with the exception of passengers who are thrown from crashing passenger vehicles.
If I'm ever found in a situation like that guy, take the gun out of my pocket and do the humane thing - if I hadn't already done so.
Let's all be careful out there! :rotf:
