When I installed my Fashtek HID H7, I found it was easier to mount the ballast to the control box on the left side. That way I could still open my headlight and replace the bulb unit without having to remove the ballast. I'm not sure yet what that thing is, but it's on the other side from the air filter intake horn.. There is no problem with doing this is there? It has a lead that goes down the side of the frame. I'll try to photo later. It looks like a voltage reulator. Am I ok

That's a ballast or ballast/igniter combination. Was this there or did you just install it? If it was already there, then you have another HID unit on your bike.

Excuse me but how did you mount a ballast to the (I suspect) identical thing and not recognize it? Even the connectors shoulda given it away. Or are you pimping us? If so, ya got us!

That's my ballast that I mounted. My question is, is it okay to mount it to what I mounted it to?

As long as it does not get wet and short out, yes it is ok. I usually mount them above the headlight where there is a flat surface. Another option is between the two sub-frame tubes on the left side of the bike if it can reach there.

Doesn't just about everywhere get wet it foul weather? If I mounted it where Messenger13 shows us, it would get wetter and keep me from replacing the bulb.

On my first HID install, I was intimidated for some reason about taking the nosecone off and doing it the right way, while at the end of the day it turns out to be no big deal...who knew? In any event, I took what I thought at the time to be the high road and mounted the ballast/ignighter where you have yours and ultimately lived to regret it later. What will occur, is that...yes, there is moisture/water/rain pretty much everywhere...but it will be exposed to 75-80 mph rain, as opposed to the mere presense of water. It'll work for a while but will eventually crap out. Do yourself a favor and go for the above the headlight option...you'll be much happier.

I'm getting ready to install my high beam HID in my '05 and I dont think the wires are long enough to reach up to the flat spot under the windscreen. Plus I have my low beam attached there. The H7 high beam is the old style (I guess) with the igniter and ballist all in one humongous package. Comes with a handy-dandy bracket but I dont know if there's room for both.

Anyone here install a high beam on an '05 and up? Any other issues?
