Hi Guys!! First post so go easy on me!!

I`m in Northern Ireland, and have recently purchased an `03 K1200GT. When I took it for it`s MOT, (roadworthyness test), it failed on excess play in the back wheel.

When the bike is on the mainstand, there is play in the back wheel in both the "x" and "y" planes. Does anyone know if play is accaeptable in this, and if so, how much? The play is between the rear wheel fork, and the final drive.
Thanks! :bmw:

I'm not sure if I understand correctly but lets say if you have the bike on the center stand in gear. If the right hand is at 3 o'clock on the rear tire and the left is at 9 o'clock and you move the wheel down on the right and up on the left and vice-versa there will be some play in the drive line. Now if your hands are in the same position and you move the right hand foward toward the other side of the bike and the left hand pull towards you and vice-versa there should not be play.

If the whole wheel/rear drive assy is moving where it mounts to the swingarm, then it is most likely worn needle bearings where it mounts or improper preload torque. Not too expensive. If it is just the wheel moving - that is much worse as that is most likely the big bearing in the drive.
