I have a ballistic mesh jacket from FirstGear. When I bought it, it had cheap little foam protectors installed. I want to upgrade the protectors to the better quality ones. Anyone have a suggestion on a place to source the protectors??

Forget the pad. Get yourself a Forcefield back protector.
It saved my back 2 weeks ago. Everywehere else on my body I had bruises plus cracked rib. Not a scratch where the protector provided coverage. I bought the one that covers from the shoulders to the tail bone.

You must have an older style jacket. The First Gear Mesh jacket that I bought last year has hard rubber armor in the shoulders and elbows. I think these jackets are only about $130...might be easier to get a new jacket with the new pads in it.

I was looking at some web sites the other day and most of them (actually all of them that I found) show the Mesh Tex jackets come with EVA foam, which is what my jacket has. I saw one web site that had the upgrade to FirstGear CE protectors right on the same page as the jacket.
I have included a pic of the FirstGear EVA foam and the FirstGear CE protectors that will fit the Mesh Tex jackets. I personally do not care for the foam. It curls up and is a PITA. I suspect not all that much protection either. I was not a wise shopper when I bought my jacket or I would have not purchased the FirstGear with EVA foam protectors... live and learn.

I have THIS (http://www.firstgear-usa.com/fgweb.nsf/tProducts/E464EC29CA06D566862571EA00724425?opendocument) jacket. I has CE armor for the elbows and shoulders and a foam back protector. The is also a layer of foam on the outer shell of the jacket on top of the CE armor in the elbows and shoulders.
I did go down a couple years ago in my older First Gear jacket and the foam actually worked OK. The mesh material did rip on the left arm, but only one layer so I was OK...

Weird... I looked at a lot of web sites... don't remember seeing anything but Mesh Tex 2 jackets. At least now I know I need to be looking for a Mex Tex 3. Thanks!!

I upgraded my Mesh Tex 2 jacket with the Core Comp from New Enough. I actually left the foam on the inside and the core comp outside so there doubled up. Was kinda awkward at first, but now I am used to it. New Enough has great prices, and great service. I have bought most of my riding stuff from them.

Glad I could help. I really like dealing with them. They are good if you need to send something back as well. Will send you the new size first then you send back the wrong size.
