A Little Help??

While riding my '05 RT last night without the bags I stopped to get something to eat. I took my Tourmaster mesh jacket off and laid it over the back seat. A sleeve managed to come in contact with the exhaust for a split second burning the cuff and leaving a patch of burnt fabric on my exhaust pipe.

I did managed to get some of it off when the pipe was hot but would welcome any suggestions as to how to get the residual off. I have heard oven cleaner but I am worried about using it on the chrome.

Oven cleaner will do the job just fine and not harm the chrome. Just make sure to mask off around where you are going to apply the oven cleaner.

DO NOT GET OVEN CLEANER ON ALUMINUM PARTS!!!

My Harley tends to get burnt orange rubber on it from time to time. DARN CONES! I used to use BluMax from NAPA, but the EPA made them stop selling the stuff. Worked like a dream, but almost immpossible to find now. I use 0000 steel wool and with just a little pressure, the melted stuff comes off without scratching the chrome. Been doing it for about 1 year and a half now and still no problems with scratching.

Jere, Never Dull and a lot of elboe grease finally did the trick. Polished is out with a metal polish called Blue Magic which worked great as well. Thanks for the suggestion. Never Dull will always be around my work shop.

Don't sweat it, as noted, Never Dull or most other chrome polishes will do the job. Melted boot heals and rain suits are always an issue with my older 'R's'. Never had a problem getting it off. For thick chunks careful use of a razor blade helps get you to a thickness you can easily polish. I'd forget trying oven cleaner, a solvent approach to melted plastic sounds like a waste of time (not to mention, any industrial solvent that will dissolve plastic isn't getting any where near my bike).
