Hi all,

Looks like I have the chance to take the bike out this weekend.

I don't know where I am planning on going, so looking for some imput.

I want to head North, leaving Friday afternoon - and riding for about 5 hours.

Open all day sat. and will need to be back in Denver Sunday night.

ANY SUGGESTIONS? PLACES TO CAMP?

Thanks,

Adam

Head up to Rocky Mountain Ntl. Park. Absolutely increadible and it's a nice day right for somebody from Denver. My wife and I did it a couple of years ago on the 4th of July weekend (BIG mistake) Non-holiday weekend it should be nice and smooth sailing.

Hey Adam!

I hope all is well with your Bride.

Is she going with you?

If not, you might look at the Black hills. They are about 5 hours from here with Plenty of camping options. I would suggest Custer as it closest to us. You can then take many rides including the Bad Lands, Devils Tower, Mount Rushmore, Custer State Park.....

Too bad I did not know sooner, I am already booked to go out of town this weekend.

We need to ride, soon!

No wife, she is walking in Avon's walk for the cure (Breast Cancer).

That is the only reason I am going, she is gone all weekend.

Black Hills, I have heard good things about it up there - thanks for the pointer!

I want to go further North after that! ANYBODY KNOW MT?

Not sure how far it is from Denver, but Grand Teton has an easily accessible camp ground and there are plenty of day rides to do from there. CCR was there a couple years back and I had fun. You might even be able to find some day trip maps on the CCR site.

North?? Why would you want to go North?

UGH. Nothing but straight slabs and WIND - plenty of WIND.

Head west young man... the LT was made for CURVES.

...and I'll guarantee you there are tons of great roads in the high country you've NEVER been on...

Hey, this weekend??

This is 'Field Day' weekend for all us Amateur Radio guys. We'll be camping out at the Edness Kimball Wilkins state park East of Casper. You'd be more than welcome to come on up, pull up a chair and we'll give ya a microphone. See if you can chat with some of the other radio guys around the world.

I hear some of 'em even ride LTs :thumb:

Google Map (http://www.google.com/maphp?hl=en&q=&om=1&ie=UTF8&ll=42.855831,-106.18767&spn=0.168121,0.32135&z=12). Come through the gate, tell the gate dude you're with the radio club - should be no charge to get in, but no promises. Take the first Left, the first Right - you'll drive right up to us at the Centennial Shelter.

Depending on how rustic you want your camping I would suggest going up CO 14 through Poudre Canyon to the Colorado State Forest. There is also a KOA with cabins in Gould which has cabins. Head on north through Walden up to Saratoga Wyoming where there is a free hot springs pool. Come back through the Snowy Range Scenic Byway and I promise you will enjoy it.

Best suggestion I've seen is this one.
As usual, Ron K is right on the money. US 85 going to the Black Hills is best seen from above the pages of a book, as someone else drives you there. Very windy and hot! Now you know why so many HD riders ride in their cage with the trailer and MC behind, on the way to Stugis....
Eastern Mt is more of the same, however, if you ride north from Gillette, Wyoming at night, you will see more deer than you thought possible.
If you want to see MT, go west! Go up through Yellowstone and keep going and going and going, Glacier National Park will astound you. Take your passport and keep going futher into Waterton International Peace Park. Going to the Sun Highway is like Trail Ridge Road (Estes Park to Granby) on steroids...

Go west! Take 285 to Salida to Hwy 50 to Montrose. Camp in Montrose. Get up next morning, take 550 South to Ridgeway, west on 62 over the Dallas Divide to Placerville. Go west to Naturita, then north on SR141 through the Unawheep Canyon back to Hwy 50. 50 north to I70, then you can slab it to Idaho Springs, then over 103 to Echo Lake and Evergreen. If you ever need ride info in Colorado, check out cohcc.org. Valk group I rode with when I lived in Denver. Great bunch with lots of ride info on the website.
Any questions, just let me know.

Wow! I will have to look at all this information tonight when I have time.
Thanks to everyone that has posted.

I am headed North, cause I been on all the roads in the other directions - I want to EXPLORE!

If it's north you must go then head north on 287 to Laramie, 30 west to 487, north to 20 west to Thermopolis. 120 west to US 212 into Yellowstone. 89 south to Jackson then 89 south to I70, then home.
