thanks to everyone in advance for any help!

When I set the cruise on my 01 LT. sometimes it will set and sometimes it wont. The speed at which i set the cruise is not an issue. sometimes at 65 mph it will sometimes not. any ideas.

I am thinking maybe the throttle cables might need adjusting?

Thanks Quohog

It's possibly the cables, but not the only possibility for sure (assuming that you have the same cable end switch that I have on my '03). The end switch that mounts on the fuel rail should depress when you push the throttle backwards a bit from its rested position. Make sure that the cables are adjusted so that it it is not depressed while you are throttling the bike.

I've found if the switch get wet on the handlebar (parked outside and it rains, don't cover it during wash), the CC won't engage unless I cycle the main switch quite a few times (7-10, on/off). Don't know if the '99 switch is susceptible to water intrusion, but I've found if the red light is not on, cycling the switch will fix it.

Just my $0.02.

Might also check your brake lights standing still.

I just fixed the same problem as you. It could be the same thing, but it may not. If you are going down the road and you lightly push downward towards the ground on your clutch handle and the CC engages consistently then you know its the microswitch in the handlebar at the clutch handle. If it is the microswitch then you can bend the little tab on it to make it engage the switch a little more. Requires a little disassembly of the left hand grip cluster of buttons and gadgets Many of us here have done this instead of taking it to the shop to have it fixed for more money than its worth.

But mine is a 99LT and I can't say that it is the same on your bike.
