I've gone over Messenger 13's file on the CQ light install....my question is if they're similar in install...also if anyone has instr on wiring the ballast to the battery would be helpful as well tks Mikey

The 2 low beam installs are very much alike between the two. I didn't get the high beam kit. The power comes from the plug from the old bulb. Instructions are included. Make sure the ballast clears your steering dampener. Components are keyed to plug in one way. As close to plug an play as one could expect. go for it. :)

I did both high & low with the Fashtek kit - a worthy modification!
Messenger13's instructions for the low beam were VERY helpful, although I chose to remove the nosecone so I could do some other work at the same time. I'm glad I did, as the high beam is a bit more involved. The high beam bulb holder needs to be modified (cut or filed away) to allow the bulb to fit. Sounds like no one has found a perfect way to do it, I think most of us ended up 'gluing' the bulb in place with high temp. silicone or a hot melt glue gun.
I made sure I can put it all back to stock if I need to and carry the old bulbs & parts with me. I also attached both ballasts on top of the headlight assembly with Velcro, neatly and up & out of the way which would be difficult without removal.
One thing I did was run a larger ground wire for both ballasts to a point on the frame rather than relying on the kinda wimpy looking one inside the headlight housing. This eliminates 2 wires coming through the grommets as well. I intend to add a switch of some kind to this wire eventually so I can turn off the light before I start the bike, eliminating the 'double' startup shock on the ballasts/bulbs when turning on the key and then hitting the starter. The hot wires for the ballasts simply plug in where the stock bulb wires do, no need to go to the battery in my opinion.
Bottom line: If I were doing just the low beam I'd reach up underneath but if doing both I think you should disassemble.
Good luck & God bless,
Rick

The only difference between the Fashtek install and the CQ is that the hole drilled in the headlight housing is no more than 7/8" for the Fashtek not the 1" for the CQ. Everything else is the same as in Joe's instructions.
