I am interested in how some folks have worked around the 12V to 5V powering of your Sat radios. I have in the past wired a female cigarette lighter plug and plugged in but found with vibration the xm plug unseats. I have also opened the xm power plug and added a couple of wires to directly attach to the bike. Has anyone found a reliable 12V stepdown that is clean and neat looking?

Fred,

I did the direct solder method but I stuffed it in behind the map light so it "looks" clean an neat. Then ran the output to the wing of the BMR shelf where the XM unit sits.

I tried the home modified plug but after a while vibration got the better of it, so I finally broke down and bought the Hardwire adapter.

No problems since, lives under the pillion seat, been there about two years now.

I used the female cig lighter wired to my blue sea fuse block. After plugging the XM power plug in I wrapped the socket with cloth electrical tape and then sealed the two plugs together with heat shrink. That unit has been tie wrapped to a crossmember behind the front cowl fot over two years and is still performing just fine.
