I have just finished a couple of extended rides on my new tires: Avon ST45 in front and ST46 in back and I am most pleased! Previous to this I had the stock B-stone 020 radials and then an Avon ST45/Bstone-020R combination and then a Metzler 880/B-stone 020R combo (due to a dealer error on a trip through Ohio).

The Avon pairing is by far the best handling tire. I have had no issue with highway cracks or tar snakes, but have yet to ride on rain grooved road. Cost was less than the B-stones too. Rode in some wind gusts yesterday and everything was OK. These tires are a little more "twitchy" than say the Metzlers (very round), but that is expected with tires that turn in this quickly (triangular).

I'll try to update this post as the tires begin to wear more and I have driven over more variety of road surface.

Hey bud, from the bad press from most and only a few good, I've never tried the two together. Just run a front, but have been twitching to try both. You run with a passenger? Just thinking weight concerns.

I sure like mine set...

I have run in the rain with no problems. They do follow the rain grooves more than my previous set of Metzelers did, but nothing that caused me to pucker. Have ridden in some serious crosswinds and they hold as well as one could ask.

I've got a couple thousand on mine now. I'll be curious to see how long they last...

No two up experience though Grif - sorry... Although, with Thanksgiving coming, I'll probably come out of that holiday weighing as much as two...;)

Griff, I've got the Avons, F&R, and have not problems either. Ran them out to Jackson and back. Solo and 2-up. They look to be doing OK on long life, so far. Can't say that I've had any reservations show up, yet, in @ 7K miles.

At 8000 the rear was remove for the CCR 05 trip, not quite to the wear bars.
Since my rear tire on arriving at CCR 04 caused such consternation, simply thought not showing up this year with exposed innards might be a good idea.
Took of the front at the same time, it had not feathered as predicted and both are here in the garage as emergency spares.

Mostly 1 up (220# + baggage),mostly aggressive riding, some two up (340 #+baggage) less aggressive riding(left kidney couldn't take the rabbit punching, had to straighten up and fly right).
42/43 front 48/50 rear
And yes , I still love the stickyness aspect of these tires.
And no, I haven't had the tar snake, grooved road nor rain issues as told (and believed, I might add) by our Californian bretheren.
Then again haven't riden their roads.

Your mileage may vary.

Grif,
I ride about 80% of the time two up. No issues... yet.

Which tire are you using (is it the (B) front) and where did you get them. Online?

Yep, our rain-grooved concrete freeways are tough on any tire, but two rear Avon's made the LT just feel squirrely. I still find that the rear BT020 Radial rear gives the best grip and least tendency to wander over road grooves or imperfections than anything else (and I've tried them all). The AV45 front gets my vote for mileage and handling in all conditions.

I've never tried the rear Avon.... yet, and may be klazy for pondering it. It may be awhile as I have a fresh set, front Avon, rear Bridgestone in the moto closet. Yet another idiosyncrazy: always keeping a fresh set of tires on hand. Nothing worse than needing a tire and not having it.

Worked great 2 up in the dry and rain. Initially, a bit twitchy, don't know if I got used to the tires or they scuffed in.

The improvement over the ME 880s was unreal. Have about 3500 on the tires now. It looks like the rear will run around 8000 and the front around 10000.

Have put the bike up for the winter. 0 degrees F and 10" of snow is not my idea of good riding weather.

From the FROZEN TUNDRA of Northern Iowa.

Getting ready for another set of tires and thought I would try the Avons. But looking at their web site, the only tire that comes back from a search on 'K1200LT' is the Bridgestone 020s. Any purchased the Avons on line lately. I can't find them.

I purchased mine from swmoto back in the spring... I was pretty confident on the tores based on what I had read here, but just ot make sure I traded a couple emails/phone calls in order to make I was getting the right tires. They were quick to respond and very patient with my questions...
