We have 1450 miles on our '07 K12LT, and I am trying to understand the intercom system. Does anyone have a schematic, drawing or tech specs for the J&M microphones used on the headsets supplied by the BMW dealers?

I have an 07 Lt also and the intercom is so weak that my wife and I cannot communicate. The CB, GPS, and Radio volume is ok.

. . . my dealer wants us to take the floor model on an hour+ test drive as soon as he gets our helmets in and wired (this week) while still a full month before the bike is made. I bet he's having us QC his installation before we actually take possession of the new girl.

Or, I could be completely stupid and reading way too much into that. . . :histerica

Weak intercom? Check following:
1 - position of ear speakers; mine were totally behind my ears, hence sound wasted
2 - connections of coil cord; especially at the tail hangin from the helmet
3 - setting of 'gain'; boost for earphones can be dialed up or down using the control in the glove box

I have the J&M/BMW headsets which I installed my self because the guy the dealer uses was going to take two weeks. The only problems so far is making sure the helmet pigtail is securely plugged into the log coiled cable to the bike. if it gets pulled a little loose the sound will fade in and out. As said above read the instructions for the com system and check what the settings are in the box. There is a procedure to reset everything to factory defaults so you can start from a known point.

I appreciate the comments to my question about the mic for the J&M/BMW intercom on the K12'07. I have learned that the J&M mics are of the electret or powered variety while many are dynamic. Has anyone found a mic that will work on the J&M intercom other than the J&M mic?

We installed the J&M Elite series headsets and obtained the BMW cable in order to use the K1200LT's intercom. From those of you having experience with the sound quality of this system would you please comment about your experience? Does this intercom sound clear like a telephone conversation or does it sound more like you are speaking over a CB radio where there is background static as you are speaking?

My wife and I use the J&M Elite series for flip up helmets which are basically the same as open face types and find them to work well. We have an '06 with Voice II and after figuring out how to adjust things they work well. Intercom communications are "telephone like" quality and the CB is full quieting. The VOX takes a little getting used to, but all in all it works well.

On the highway we use ear plugs to reduce wind noise and are able to set the volume high enough that communications are easily accomplished. The only complaint is that the music output to the headsets is flat and there is no way on the Voice II to adjust it. The radio adjustments work only on the speakers.
