I have a fascination with geographic oddments and I have a State Farm road atlas from 1960 that shows highway 61 crossing the US/Canada border several miles inland rather than at the current location close to the the lake on the Pigeon River. I found some fascinating photos of what the place looked like back in the 1950's (http://www.thekingshighway.ca/PHOTOS/Hwy61photos.htm) and while I know that there are no buildings remaining I would still love to see where the road used to cross the river. Has anyone ever ridden out there? I'd like to know something of what the road is like before we try it.

Thanks

Signed up so that I could give you information about the crossing. I drove to the crossing in a Chevy Cavalier so you should make it easily. Bridge abutments, pavement etc still present. I also noted that someone appears to live along side the crossing. (US side) and a rather nice looking house/cabin is build right on the cliff above the river on the Canadian side.

Hope you can make the trip.

(Check back, I hope to post a couple pictures on Flickr and will put a link here.)
