Well, Finally bit the bullet and went for putting in the CQ kit. A snafu though. After connecting everything, when I go to turn on the bike, the light came on once. Came back to check it again, and now it just flickers when I turn it on, then goes out. Same thing if I start the engine. Any suggestions?? Bummer.. Short update, I plugged the low halogen back in and it works. So what are the indications regarding a bad bulb..Does it just go out or flicker or start up like mine..

I'm guessing the problem is in the ballast. Don't know how you check 'em, other than maybe someone in your 'hood also has a CQ installation and you could check your bulb with their ballast and maybe vice-versa?!!

Karl, I had similar symptoms when I installed my CQ kit on my 05... It turned out to be the blade connectors in square housings that were not crimped properly, so when I was pushing the connectors together the wires inside were pulling apart inside their housing. I re-crimped them properly and they connected fine. They were also making a buzzing sound with the poor connections.
Hopefully your problem is as simple as that.

Of all of them that have been sold on the two forum's, I've heard of two with problems. He took them right back and replaced them with no problem.

Mine was one of them. Exactly the same symptoms. I sent an e-mail, returned the entire unit and got back my original ballast, igniter and wiring with a new bulb. Works great now.

Mine had a similar problem and turned out that one of the blade connectors was like Zippy's - it was pushing back out of the housing. Check to see that all connectors are secure in their plastic housings. I inserted a piece of a broken toothpick in mine to wedge the locking tab in position to hold it together properly.

Good luck with it. hope it's something simple.

I've had mine installed for a couple of months now and when I first turn the key to the accs. mode, the light will ignite sometimes, others not. However, when I start the bike it never fails to ignite. Any similar instances like this?

Thanks

Yes, me too. Don't know why though.

As the others have suggested check your connections first,
my unit failed a couple of weeks ago after 2 1/2 years,
same symptoms as yours just a flicker at start up,
I bought a new unit,
Their customer service is great,
it was in my mailbox on the second day.

did the process of elimination check up and it was the bulb.

I've had the opposite of Gene and John's experience. My HID always ignites when I first turn on the key. On occasion it fails to re-ignite after startup. Happens about once every 5 or 6 starts. I wait a little before pressing the starter to allow the HID to come to full power; that seems to help a little but I still get the failure to restart on occasion.

I have gotten to the point that if I am parked in sunlight and cannot tell from the saddle whether my low beam is on, I'll start the bike in neutral on the centerstand, and look around to make sure my headlight is on before riding off.

It's only a minor annoyance at this point but I'm keeping an eye on it.
