Just treated my self to a shiny new 9500. Very nice operation. Way less false alarms, Less interpreting of alarms, displays speed when you are hit with the radar. Yes it is pricey but being a former 8500 user I really like it a lot. Saved the bacon twice so far. once radar once laser.

Mike - I just purchased from Escort the new 9500 to use on my LT. Where did you mount your unit, and are you using a cover for it of any type?

Yes. However, the plug on the 8500 is on the right side of the unit and the 9500 is on the left side. This may pose a problem if you wired it tight to the right side for the 8500.

Pardon the interjection, but www.legalspeeding.com (http://www.legalspeeding.com) has a Universal radar box that is weather tight. I've been using it for my 8500 for several years and it serves two purposes. It protects the unit from water and it secures the RD to the bike in a way that, to a good extent, prevents theft of the RD. Mine is mounted on a BMR shelf and I use the H.A.R.D. system to alert me rather than an audio alert which bugged the Mrs..

No cover just use 3-M heavy duty velcro to hold in place on my RCU shelf. Plus I have a a small bungee cord 1/4" diameter across the top of the unit for security. But the velcro is strong.

I wont use in rain or if it is raining I really wont need it when raining.

None of the covers really provide what I am looking for "theft prevention".

The pelican case may but looks are ugly and not sure how well it will work in side the box.

Yes there is a form fitted cover available for the Escorts. I own one now except that when it blew off ( Use a Rubber Band!!) it got ran over. Still works somewhat. I like it allot better than a rain cap.

The problem is that for the life of me I can not remember or figure out who I bought it from so that I can get another.

There only about $15 or so and well worth it because they are very durable.

Someone please jog my memory!!!

BS on the laser save. Doesn't happen. Sorry but if you are picking up laser, regardless of the detector, your speed has already been acquired unless you have a laser jammer in which case the detector isn't even "neccessary" as the jammer will alert.

I believe that if a nearby vehicle is targeted with the laser, there's enough reflected energy that can be detected. Can any of you engineering types chime in on this one?

A black bike with no chrome may delay lockon. Further, a coating of Veil on the headlight will also help. (alot)

Anything is possible, but I've seen target speed readings in multiple tests where the target laser detector never alerted due to the fact that the ir while it reflected off the front of the car, it never made it to the detector. I believe the beam is around an 18 inch radius at 1000 feet.

Create a new alarm system and a professional burglar will bypass it. Invent a new encryption algorithm and someone will crack it.
So it is not so far fetched to believe that a Radar Detector company has or will come up with laser detection or protection.
