Just a heads-up to all you modifiers.

I am going through NJ state inspection right now. My HID light was disallowed (low-beam conversion).

Not the end of the world, of course: I temporarily bypassed the HID kit and re-inserted the original halogen H7.

I really like the HID lamp and will return to it once I pass reinspection. Nevertheless, if you live in the Garden State and are considering conversion, make sure that you install it in such a way that the original halogen bulb can be reinstalled. Not a bad idea anyway, in case the discharge lamp fails on a long trip.

I have the CQ 5000K kit, lowest color temperature they offered, but indeed it is still visibly more blue than the OEM discharge lights in our car.

Worth keeping in mind.

What was the reason for disallow? Color only? Open to inspector's discretion?

Just one more reason to live in CA! he he he

They discontinued inspections years ago here. I actually went against the wisdom in the group here, and went 8000k temp. A little bluer, but I want to stand out in daytime - I rarely ride at night if'n I can avoid it. Here in the hills you got dumb critters as well as folks to deal with!

Ever since they revamped the MVS and outsourced the inspection stations to a private company, none of my vehicles seem to pass. They are all reletively new vehicles, but they find a way to fail them. I pay a local gas station who is licensed to do inspections and he never seems to have a problem with them. I take the LT to Cross Country BMW in Metuchen and they inspect it for $2.50. That's a bargain!

No vehicle inspections (except EPA crapola for emissions disguised as eCheck) in OH. That pertains to 4 wheels vehicles only
