View Full Version : Central Locking System

I noticed on my 07LT that it seems the top box is not locking when I activate the locks with the key fob. The side cases and the oddments box lock but the top box does not. Before I make a long trip to the dealer could I have possibly done anything stupid? Is there a setting in the lock with a key or something that would disable the central lock?
Thanks,
Bruce

There is a small two pin connector under the pillion seat that may be loose or not connected as the bike is shipped with the top case off. Dealer may have missed it when they put it together.

The reason that mine hasn't locked with the locking system is the release button on the handle gets stuck from not pushing it straight down. It gets caught on the side and doesn't pop out all the way. When I activate the lock with it stuck it doesn't lock the top case. I've gotten in the habit of trying to press straight on the button and not get it stuck to the side and also checking to see that it's out when leaving the bike. Hope this helps.

I've been lurking here awhile reading and learning...I came across this thread almost by accident and had to post. I too have an 07 LT that had the same problem. I've had my baby for about 3 weeks and have put a little over 1000 miles on her! I never dreamed of having a bike that could eat the miles like this. I went home after reading this thread and pulled off the pillion...I found the connector right away and plugged it in. Now my trunk latch works like a champ. I'm surprised the dealer didn't check this plug since I had them take a look at it during the 600 mile service. I guess they'll have a new locking mechanism in stock since I don't need it. Thanks to all the guys who post here. I'm sure this is only the beginning of my LT education. Y'all are geniuses.

Yup, my 07 did the same thing. I had the dealer fix it under warranty.

John,
Thanks for the tip. I have to dig out some torx tools and I will check it this weekend. In the meantime I will have to lock it with the key.

You shouldn't need any torx - just hex. There are two hex bolts that hold on the pillion seat - it's a five minute job. :)

I looked at it in poor light and thought it was torx. Now I can do it tonight.

I'm surprised the dealer didn't check this plug since I had them take a look at it during the 600 mile service. The 600 mile service is a glorified oil change, so I wouldn't expect the dealer to go over the entire bike, and going under the passenger seat is not part of any maintenance so the dealer is not likely go stick their little fingers there.

True - but if I had asked them to look at something that was not working I would expect them to do more than just "order a part". No one seems to trouble shoot any more, they just throw parts at it.

I agree with John. Seems like nobody wants to figure out a problem any more...they just keep replacing parts until it works. That's acceptable if it's on the company's dime, however that just wont do when it's coming out of my wallet. And I did specifically mention it to them to check that, of course it was open house and I did use up a good bit of shop time by adding PIAA's and Jpegs...

Thank you to the Senile Member. I think I got the job done in less than 2 minutes. I'm happy once again.

I went back and looked with a flashlight and my seat bolts allong with the tupperware screws are indeed Torx. I have attached a picture but I'm not sure I did it right.
