OK, I've been trying for an hour to post a pic. I think I have it. Someone asked me for a pic of the clutch I replaced a couple of weeks ago. So, here it is.......I hope....... :)

Hmmm - nice patina on those plates, James!! ;) And you did good on posting the pics.

I forget - how many miles went by 'til you had to replace it??

I could be wrong, but I don't think it is so much "burned" as it is saturated by some type of fluid. Did you have a Slave Cylinder leak or Input Shaft Seal leak? It looks exactly like two I have replaced recently that were contaminated with fluid. The material is very dark. I bet if you wiped it with a cloth, you would find that the residue would be moist and black...not just dusty and dry.
