During my recent Radio Problems which I fixed with the Help of you Folks out there, one of the things I noticed was that the Display, as well as showing "RADIO" and "BMW" also displayed "INTERCOM". I didn,t think anything of it at the time but but I am now puzzled. As far as I know the Bike does not have an Aftermarket Intercom such as Autocom etc but there is evidence of some wiring Mods under the Passenger Seat and there is a small 3 position Toggle Switch just above and to the left of the 12 Volt Accessory Socket on the Rear Speaker Casing. With the Switch in the upper position Front and Rear Speakers are "on" whilst the centre and lower positions cancel out the Rear Speakers with Sound only from the Front. I can,t get the "INTERCOM" sign to appear in the display now that the Radio is working fine. Does anyone know if BMW offered a Factory Fit Intercom and if so where is it located.
Thanks
Mike Tee

Yes, they did/do. I believe the controls and such for it were located on top of the cassette deck/single CD player in the "glove" box.

The purpose of the "Intercom" mode is to allow one to use the driver to passenger intercom on the optional factory intercom (currently the VOICE II) without having to have radio or cd or anything else playing. The VOICE II can only be turned on by turning on the radio...hence the need for a mode without music.

Mike, the "small three position toggle switch" that you refer to sounds like the "Switched Music Stereo Lead" that was used on older AutoCom units. The lead is tied into the rear speakers beneath the rear seat.

That is still a current Autocom part. The Autocom taps into the rear speaker wires under the pax seat. Two versions of the tape device, one with the switch and one without. Switch allows for cutting out the rear speakers so you don't share your music with everyone around you.
