Sorry for the newbie question, but what are the alternatives for upgrading to HID lighting on a 2000 K1200LT?

Welcome to the forum, to answer your question and I'm serious,
the alternative to HID is riding in the dark,
there simply is nothing better on the market to brighten up your head light,
when I first put the low beam in my 02 it was
WOW.
It's the best hundred bucks you can spend on your bike.

but don't just take my word for it,
click on search and type in HID and you'll learn that I'm not alone in my opinion.
And here's a link with a side by side, before and after view of the results.

Wow is right. I put one of these in the low beam a couple months ago - incredible difference ('01 LT). Install was pretty easy - I did it a la Messenger13's technique of not removing the nose plastic.

I used Joe's instructions also and the install went really smoothly. Love being able to see in the dark (although it's not quite as exciting)! Go for it, you won't be sorry.
