We see all these threads about folks dropping their bikes, and quite frankly, the LT does like to lay down once-in-awhile. Hey! She's a big girl! What can you say? It's also pretty good therapy for those with bruised egos, to confess thy sins before their fellow brothers and sisters. http://www.advrider.com/forums/images/smilies/pope.gif
But this thread is for an entirely different group. It's for "the quiet ones". The ones that have actually overcome the gravitational pull. (At least for NOW! ;))
Yes folks . . . I , just Joe, aka 'messenger13', am a full-fledged NON-DROPPER! I have yet to even come close to dropping my '06 K1200GT. And as I head out on the open road this Saturday, I expect my record to remain untarnished. From the North Coast, to the West Coast . . . and back again. http://s3.amazonaws.com/advrider/ricky.gif
So to the rest of you NON-DROPPERS, I salute you! http://s3.amazonaws.com/advrider/DevilDog.gif Keep up the fine work! (...and your bike!)

Never dropped your GT? I believe you. Of course, if you really wanted to come clean you'd admit that you did drop your LT (now gone). You mentioned it in a post a long time ago. I've never been on a GT other than on a showroom floor, but I have to think it would be tougher to drop a GT than an LT.
But hey -- I've never dropped a GT either. :D

I touch wood everyday. I've had my LT for 6 months now, ride it nearly everyday, use reverse every time to negotiate out of the garage and around various objects in the path (20 foot trip).
But I'm sure I would have dropped it by now if I hadnt brushed up on the characteristics of the bike that I've learned here....front wheel straight while coming to a stop, WIDE stance of the feet on the ground while stopped (very important while 2 up), both feet on the ground, and both hands on the grips while passenger mounts/dismounts, NEVER back up over an obstacle, such as a curb...almost got bit there !
Non-dropper with fingers crossed !

Joe, even mentioning the LT and the GT in the same sentence relative to dropping is pretty ludicrous. Of course you have not dropped the GT yet. Kinda like comparing a Carbine to a Barrett 50 CAL.
Dropping the LT is kinda a "rites of passage" thing, dropping the GT would be far more embarrasing. and likely more expensive?

It depends on your definition of "drop". To me, drop implies that you were at a dead stop or at most a walking pace when the bike went horzontal. Also, how far over does the bike have to be to be considered "dropped"? If I'm still hanging onto it and it has not come to a rest, that is, it would go over farther if I let go, but it's not exactly under my complete control, is that a "drop"?
Until these questions are answered, I can not advise one way or the other whether I have "dropped" my LT.
I did get so completely stuck in the mud on a long downhill driveway that I had to sort of "set" the bike down and get off since I couldn't get the sidestand down, and I had been going about 10 mph at the time it started to sink in.
Other than that, I have not "dropped" my LT.
Also, do you have to be on or touching the bike at the time it went over to be considered a "drop"? I left my GL1500 sideways on a steep hill once and it fell over after I walked away. Would that be a "drop"?

It's a gravity thing, guys.. very reliable...
I've dropped my LT... once. Very memorable and a great learning experience.. Like my Pop says.. "Takeoffs are optional, landings aren't. If you can walk away, it was a good landing... if you can reuse the aircraft, it was an EXCELLENT landing."

Though I've followed the described course of dreaded actions that tends to cause the bike to fall I can't seem to get it to do it.
So far.... so good.
1.5 years of riding it and coming to a stop and turning the wheels while applying brakes etc. doesn't seem to do it for me.
Possibly a lesson sometime soon will cure me and i will join the other club.
Have a great trip and a safe ride.

I dropped my 600 shadow once years ago. Never dropped the Vstrom in 4 years. Did "crash", i.e. the rear slid out from under on cold tires playing on the MSF range. And then the crash that killed the strom.

Hey, I got two kids, a wife, and another kid on the way. PLUS, SOMEONE has to teach others how to ride. So many of my weekends are filled. When I get OLD like you guys :histerica , I'll have more time to ride.....
This bike is an 03 that only had 6289 miles when I bught it, so I've done HALF of what it got in it's first 3 years in 6 months. I would love to commute, but to do that, I have to drop one kid at school, swing back by house, pick up second kid , and drop him at school, then to work. And we do that on occasion. I just do not have time to go ride for a week or whatever without leaving a couple of someones at home, dangit.
I'll catch up to ya sometime. I still ride bike as much as I drive, so I don;t feel too bad.....

I'm not sure which group I technically belong to. Half way through an SS1000, parked the bike on a dirt roadside to get a picture of the bike at a mountain pass. Stepped back, took the picture and walked back to the bike. As I opened the top case, it was just enough of a weight shift to overcome gravity and over she went. On dirt and gravel (no footing) with the seat facing downhill. That was fun.
So the question remains, do I belong to D.A. or this group?
I'm so confused, but that's perfectly normal.

Hey Jay,
It's actually very easy once you know how. Just park on a sloped, uneven surface, toss the case open against the Back-Up, (restraining strap broke long ago) and over she goes!!!!
I have to say I was surprised myself. I figured that once I got her up the center stand I was fine.

To the FEW! . . . The PROUD! . . . The NON-DROPPERS!!! http://www.zzrbikes.com/modules/Forums/images/smiles/icon_super.gif (http://javascript%3cb%3e%3c/b%3E:emoticon(':supz:')) http://s3.amazonaws.com/advrider/beer.gif

He never "dropped" it, but he sure looked funny that time I passed him so fast that he put down his sidestand and got off it to see why it stopped!

ok...I currently own 6 bikes, 5 of which I have never dropped.
For the full confessional, here goes. In 38 years of riding, I dropped a bike in 1980 ( KZ 750E). Then 18 years later, in 1998, my then new HD RoadKing fell off sidestand ( I was no where near it). Next, in 2002, I dropped my first LT while "walking" it along-side, moving from one garage to the next, ( front wheel hit rain-lip of garage entrance while I was distracted).
Finally, a year ago, I dropped my second LT at Blue Ridge scenic overlook, while hurrying up to assist a rider who went down in front of me. I rolled up along his downed bike, put the sidestand down ( not fully), jumped off my LT to assist him and watched it roll off sidestand.
there...I feel absolved, But there are still five bikes I haven't dropped !
edit: make that four bikes....when riding off road, I fall down. sometimes alot.

I've never dropped the LT, not even doing motor officer courses. I have, however, dropped a Harley Road King a lot!
Haven't dropped the RT-P either. The Harley is easy to pick up.. the first couple times.....
