Pulling the Trigger on HID

Well after 34,000 miles and much consideration on the HID lighting I'm planning to get this kit;

It's a 5000K H7 low beam for my 2003LTE. The price is right. Has anyone purchased from this company yet?

I haven't purchased from that company but did just install 5000k HIDs. They make a huge difference but you can see the color difference in the 5000k's. They are WHITE, the high beam is very yellow in comparison. I got a good deal on mine but if I could had gotten the 4200k I they would be a better match, and I think actually higher lumens.

I agree, the 4200k-4300k heat range is much brighter and draws less attention from the cops.

I installed the 4300k about a month ago and they are great. Have not been flashed yet, and ride at least 4-5 times a week at night, in town on freeway, etc. Light is very white, bright and when adjusted down does not seem to bother anyone.

From one who has never seen the HID's in the flesh, so to speak, is there much difference in the light from the 4300k compared to the 5000k? The price quoted in the above link seems to be the most competitive I've seen, but they don't appear to sell the 4300k.

The 4200K are not all that much less blue than the 5000K, but seemingly to my eyes 6000K is MUCH bluer than the 5000K.

I had 4200K low beam in the LT, and wanted to upgrade my 525i car to HID low beam, but could only get 5000K. I have a friend with 6000K in a car at work, and they are WAY too blue for me. Worried that I would not like them, I went ahead and ordered the 5000s for the car. Surprised that after I installed them they were only a little bluer than the one on the bike. Later I got a 740il car with factory HIDs, and they are about the same as the one on the bike. If I put the two cars side by side, only a slight difference between the HID color.

Go ahead and order the 5000K if you cannot get 42-4300.

6000 or greater is not nearly as good for lighting, and will upset oncoming drivers more, especially LEOs! :D :D

Thanks for the info. David. You must live on the Forum (lucky for us). Will be moving to Tasmania in 3 weeks and will look at doing the change after then as a lot of my commuting will be done in the dark. If there is not that much difference in light and colour then the ones in the link above seem to be a good price at the $110 + conversion and freight. Happy camper!

I read the ad and you are looking at a model 5000 with a 4200 to 5000 rating. I am ordering the same. I was thinking about ordering the auto set and selling 1 of them...A chance to save a few dollars on shipping. Anyone interested e-mail me.

I put a 5000 k on mine a few weeks back and the DIFFERENCE is amazing . :yeah:
There is a definite difference in the High beam color BUT I have not been flashed and it has made a BIG improvement!!!

Can both the hi & lo beam be done with the HID kits or would that be pushing it?

It can and has been done by several members. I've been thinking about it but don't know it I want to give up my headlamp modulator (high beam). Being see in the daylight is high on my list of safety features. But with my resent addition of MotoLights (3 points of light) the headlamp modulator might not be as important.

I split the Wideview automotive kit 4300k with another guy and we paid $199.99 total on Ebay. The kit is completely plug and play and the ballast and ignitor are combined in one unit. Very easy install. Just drill the hole in the housing and that is the only modification.

You may not find the $199.99 price but there are a ton of them on Ebay for close to that price.

Also, I have seen both a high and low hid on a bike. Just two separate ballast but ther is plenty of room for them.

When HID-Online had their member price deal I ordered a High and Low beam kit on recomendation from Raffy. I had the bike in for the 12K service at Hermy's BMW in Port Clinton PA and they installed the lights at the same time tank was off for the air filter (K&N). They had the bike for a few days and when I called to find out what they thought of the lights the owners said when they started the bike with low beam on a few people stopped to look--when the hit the high beam everyone just stopped and stood there with mouths open. With a good pair of binoculars I think I could read newspaper headlines at 1/4 mile. Both of the bulbs H7/H9 were 4100 K Phillips bulbs.

I appreciate the feedback. I did order the low beam HID from www.cqlight.ca. I found that once I completed the transaction they slip an $18 charge in on you, so your total bill with shipping is $128.99.

Keep that in mind while you are shopping for your HID. I'll report back on the quality and installation effort with this kit soon.

I have actually been to Tasmania. Haven't met many Americans who can say that. Interesting place. Hiked Cradle Mt/Lake St Clair and Frenchman's Cap National Parks, then did some caving, I think the name was Creosis (not sure of the spelling, think it was a Greek God or something). Net two guys riding their BMW's around the world. I think that was when I decided I wanted a Beemer. That was 1975. Only took me 29 years to get my dream bike.

Hi Doc. Tasmania is an amazing place. Have only been there a couple of times myself. Fay and I are really looking forward to the move. Will be working as a management accountant for a coal mine at Fingal. Will hopefully be living on the East coast and commuting each day to work - about 1 hour each way. The mine works a 4 day week and 8.75 hours each day. Will be looking forward to a long-weekend each week!
