Vancouver Island

Looking for any suggestions and/or routes for riding from Pacific Northwest to Vancouver Island. Thinking about riding up to Port Angeles and catching the ferry over to Victoria-- spend a couple days there--then take our time to travel north on Rt. 1 to Nanaimo-- catching a ferry over to Vancouver and head south on the way home to Bend, OR.

Appreciate any suggestions or things to see/be aware of. Thanks.

Hi Jeff,

We go up quite a bit. We like to take the BC Ferry from Tsawwassen {just south of the Vancouver airport) to Nanaimo. But if you want to go directly to Victoria try this (http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/ferries/schedules/current/index.cfm?route=ana-sj) ferry from Anacortes to Sidney. You will love the trip through the San Juans. The ride is much more fun than the old Black Ball ferry in Port Angeles (IMHO). Then return to Horseshoe Bay on this (http://www.bcferries.com/schedules/mainland/hbna-current.html) ferry. Fun trip all around. We will be taking a trip up to Port Alice soon. Are you doing the RCGT?

You may want to check with BC ferries website (www.bcferries.com (http://www.bcferries.com/)) for a Sunshine coast package. We did this tour by cage five years ago and it was an excellent trip. Enjoy the ride through some spectacular scenery.

If you have an extra day, take the ride out to Tofino it is a great road with lots of twisties and amazing scenery.

Great suggestions. I'll check them out. Looking forward to riding the LT rather than "the cage." Probably wait until June.
