In the April issue of MCN motorcycle consumer news they report that BMW is eliminating the Servo assisted brakes except on the 1200LT just to confirm the Engineering greatness they have they are eliminating their most vaunted feature. Is this the same as ABS or another part of the brake system?

As I understand it, it's a separate component from the ABS, much like power brakes on a car only it's electric motors instead of engine vacuum that boosts the line pressure. ABS works independent of the pressure booster, has it's own pressure modulating system.

I say it's a good move as it's overkill on a GS or GT.

On the LT it makes sense. The beast needs all the braking power technology can provide. Try panic braking on an equally heavy H-D Erectra Gride to see what I mean. You might want to be sure you're wearing some Depends diapers.

Available from your local NASA rep., and also handy for those cross-country trips. ;)
