Scout fairing on my R1200R

The 18" shield (pictured) is perfect for cooler weather. I also have a racy looking 10" shield for the summer months, also tinted. The top of the 18" shield is about two inches below eye level. Perfect. I went for a 30 mile ride today and the wind protection is outstanding! It was 39 and I was on I-96 at 80 MPH and nearly had to turn off my jacket liner. That was never the case with the little mini-shield as the jacket was working hard just to keep me warm. Now the heat is on the plus side, just like it is on the LT in the cold weather. Air coming over the top of the shield is minimal and it is also "clean" air with zero air turbulance. My Rick Mayer seat, scheduled to be built on 5/15 should be the crowning touch.

That is really a NICE looking set-up! I've often looked at the Scout fairing, but never pulled the trigger.

Did they paint it to match?

Are those Beemer Bags?

That baby would certainly make a nice around-town bike. :D

JA: I had the painter at my local BMW(GR) shop paint the fairing. The bags are BMW, same bag as the RT/GT. I also have the 28 ltr trunk. My painter also color matched the lids. You can purchase the fairing from Parabellum color matched. They charge $200.00 extra. I saved a little by having the shop do it. I'd rather give them the business, plus I know their qulaity is top notch. Having a Mayer seat built next month. Although my original intentions were for the RR to just be a local bike, I'm not so sure now. The fairing really makes it great at highway speeds and my guess is that the Mayer seat will add to that package. Dick

Looks like a nice alternative to an RT. You've obviously spent some bucks fixing the R up the way you want it. Are you approaching the price of an RT at this point?

PR: I'm probably only about two large behind an RT, what with all the added goodies. Mayer seat and I'll be done. I really don't care about the price thing anyway. I've always made my bikes into what I want, to make them tailored to me. My goal when I bought the RR was to equip it for touring. I ride about 30,000 miles in an average year. I do the Smokey's about four times a year. The advantage that the RR has is that I can ride it down there in comfort, with plenty of storage space, park it at the motel, dump the bags and trunk and tear up the mountains! And on a bike with six less HP than my LT and 350 lbs lighter. I'm on my 4th LT and some 180,000 miles on them. I just had a hankering for a light, no tupperware bike, after all these years. Thusfar I couldn't be happier! Should the RR work out for all my needs, then the LT will be gone. DR
