I knew this question probably had been ask, just did not know how to find it.

Going to Alaska in June and just wondering if I will need a rear tire change, but I think I am good.

John,
I just R & R my rear tire. I was at the wear bars at 22,000 miles. Bridgestone radial 020 and of course it is a "C" load tire as required by the 1999 K1200LT specs not a "B" load rated as is the proper front tire.

Interesting point for those who do their own R & R. The tire had been done 22,000 miles ago by a shop (BMW) and required 11 (7 gm) weights to balance against the valve stem. Whoa! The rims heavy point was actually 170 degrees from that valve stem point and with this B'stone I balanced with 2 and a half 7 gm weights.

No, I don't do wheelies (don't know how or care to learn" and I don't spin the tires either.

June is generally the month with the least rain. But, about the 3 rd week of July the gnats and very small tactical insects gradually dissappear. Have a great adventure! :bmw:

Greetings Motoman.

I changed out my rear BT020 for a ME880. My Bridgestone gave me 18,000km.

Kindest regards

John,

I put a fresh set of ME 880's on before my trip out to Alaska last year. At about 12K and not quite home, I was in OK City, I decided the rear wouldn't get me home safely. And besides I was headed to Tn to see friends and I knew I would be in the twisters.
I believe the many different road surfaces I was on combined with the gear I was carrying led to a somewhat premature end. Or maybe it was the 48 states I rode thru on the way that did it in. ;)

Have a great trip.

I got 18,500 miles on my front (Metzler) and 13,500 miles on my rear (Metzler).
