I'm trying to remove the output seal and it ain't cooperating. So I quit for the night.. before I did some damage..
The service manual says to lever it out with a screwdriver but also cautions about another seal directly behind it. How much leeway do I have trying to get that seal out. I tried a spring hook alongside the shaft and hooked the edge but the seal seems pretty tight.. I was afraid that I would break the tip off inside so I abandoned that approach.
Any ideas.. seems kind of crude to keep gouging at it...

You can punch a hole in the seal with an awl...insert a wood screw and then pull on the screw with vice grips or slide hammer.

Hey Jack, give me a holler if you want a hand. I've never pulled that seal, and I've been known to drill two holes instead of one, but when I just hold a flashlight I'm pretty harmless. :)

I thought about that but did not know how much room I had behind the seal and the next one on the other side.
I think I might give that a try the next time I get a chance to get back at it..
Thanks!

Did you get that seal out?

Yes, Thanks for asking... :thumb:
I could not puncture the seal easily but saw that the more I pressed the seal started to curl... So I was able to put a flat blade screw driver against the shaft and get enough leverage to push the seal away and that curled the seal away from the opposite end and I was able to put a spring hook behind the edge and pull it out.
After I got it out I could see what was behind it and it wasn't really an issue to dig it out like the manual says.. So now I'm 'trained' on that seal..
When I set the seal it went in a little further than I wanted but I don't think it will be a problem.. there appears to be a good distance to the other seal..
Now I am trying to bleed the slave.. Got an issue getting a vacuum with the bleed screw and my hand vacuum pump so I gave up. I got home late tonight I didn't work on it...
