View Full Version : Trying to narrow down Cee Bailey

Okay, I have read all the posts and I've been burned so many times, on different bikes, by buying after market windshields that weren't any better than the stock ones I had. So, it seems like the general consensus is that Cee Bailey #2 is the right pick. However, here is where it gets fuzzy. I'm 5'11" and I like to look over the windshield. I HATE wind noise and buffeting. So, if I go for a Cee Bailey #2, do I go -2 or -3 ? Do I get it with wings ? Do I get it with a flip top or standard ? Does it come with a Euro cut, like the small stock post '05 BMW shield ? And if it does, should I get it with the Euro cut ? What I'm thinking is, I should go with a Cee Bailey #2 -3, with wings, with Euro cut ? HELP !

Thanks, Roy

I am 5'11" and I bought the #2 -2 with wings. I ride two-up most of the time and to keep harmony in the family :) I raise the windshield... If you want to look over it, I would suggest getting a -3. Wings definitely is a yes. Beware, this windshield has a good bit more drag than the stock so your gas mileage and acceleration is going to be off a little. :(

I'm 6'1'' with a 32" inseam. I got the #2-2 and if I did it again, I may even go -3. I love the wings and the protection it gives me. I'd recommend finding someone close where you live (or a dealer) and trying it before purchase. You may end up going -3 or even -4.

I'm 6'1" with 30" inseam, #2-2 is great. Might even go to a -3 next time to lower the top edge just a wee bit more. No wings, although it might be nice to have on a "winter" screen to use for the colder months.

I am 5'11' and put the CeeBailey #2 -2 on my LT. I wish I had gone -3, but there is no distortion if I raise the screen and the wind buffeting is not near as noticeable as the stock wind shield. I ride a lot of two up and my wife noticed a little buffeting from the side, but it was probably a strong side wind. It makes the cockpit quieter and I like the flip because it keeps the wind out of my eyes. I enjoy riding with my helmet visor up, so I get a little breeze but nothing that is bothersome

I am also about 5'11' - 5'12" and put the Cee Bailey #2 -2 on. Rode 125 miles and hate it... The cockpit is quieter and I like the air flow around my body but the buffeting on my head is very uncomfortable. No matter what position the shield is in, the buffeting on my helmet was driving me crazy.

The best position was all the way down. The air flow went over my head(while looking over the shield) and I could feel the air pulling from the back and getting a great flow of air through the Aerostitch... I love that!

With the shield all the way up it wasn't to bad, but I can not ride looking through the shield. I need to look over it. (why, I don't know)
There is a lot of extra drag on the shield - at 70 mph the motor has a hard time pushing it up.

Over all the CB shield are very nice and look great. I was so disappointed that it was just not right.

I will be calling CB in the morning and seeing what they can do to dial this in or if I can return it... maybe -3...

Thoughts anyone!!!

I am 5'9" and have a -4. I like the height of it, but unless the wind is coming at you directly from the front, you will not notice much difference if the shield is up or down. For a taller person (close to 6' or higher) I think the -4 may be too much. Even at 5'9", I can see over the shield and it provides protection for me from buffeting. But, I get alot of wind on my arms. More then with stock. I have not tried the wings, but from what I hear, they seem to work for that.

I am contemplating a -2 right now. Not sure if that will be too high. Not sure there will be that much difference between a -3 and a -2.

Good Luck

I have a #2 stock hieght. I just use it in the winter. I going to get it cut down to a -4 this summer. Also my girl says she gets a lot of back pressure with the bailey. I do like the wings though for keeping the cold wind off my arms. Oh, I'm 5'8 with a 31" inseam.

Hey Roy, here is a good recipe for ya:

#2 -4 (or max -3), with wings, Euro cut. If you like the Vespa look, take the standard cut. Both cuts have the same height when measured from the centerline of the shield. Euro cut just has the corners higher and thus gives better looks IMHO and somewhat better wind /rain protection.

DO NOT go to -2 height, it will be way too tall for you.
I am 6" and I had -4 which was just fine when riding seat down. Now that I have the powered seat adjuster I raise the seat real high on highways (65 mm from the low position) I changed to -3, but I would say that even this would be too tall for you. You said you like to ride looking OVER the shield.

I have assisted about ten Finnish LT riders to choose their CB shields and only one took -2 height but this guy was 195 cm (whatever in inches- tall guy anyway...)

Good luck

I'm 6' I have the #2 -3 standard cut (not euro) no wings. I can see over the shield when all the way down and it's plenty tall when raised. NO buffeting under 80mph. I got the light tint too. Looks cool and less glare...
