Randy:
I did my last night without removing any tupperware. The hardest part for me was getting the retainer clipped over the new bulb for some reason. Make sure your test it before you put it all back together.

RayI think that is because the base of the HID bulb (black bakelite type) is a bit thicker than the stock metal base of the lamp. Nothing a little "appropriate" force cannot solve...

I did mine last night. Ran into the retainer wire deal. In the process of trying to use "appropriate force", I apparently broke the plastic tang off that holds one of the wires in place. The light seems pretty secure with one wire, so I left it for the time being. Rode around for about 30 minutes with no bad results. Gonna try it for now and start looking for a used headlight assy.
The light is awesome! As everyone reports. All other stuff went pretty smoothly. I did have an issue with one of the plugs. The tab kept coming out of housing, but I was able to wedge the retainer in place with a piece of toothpick to hold the tab up that retains the connector tab. I know many of you will probably be rolling your eyes at all my redneck engineering. But it works for now and I can't afford a new headlight assembly right now.
Just be careful applying force to the wire retainers on the bulb.

Thank you for the pics, & info. I installed my kit from cqlight in 45min. on my 05 LT & it does work great!! I bought the 5000 & had to take it for a ride 35deg. to see the change, well worth it. It would have taken me at least double that w/o your help. I removed no cowlings and espeically appreciated the note to clean the bulb with alcaohl.
Thanks again,
Yellow Flash

A caveat some may encounter? Joe, your first pic shows a 1" hole being drilled in the dust cover, a step I made on faith. Turns out my particular grommet was 3/4", not 1". Had to epoxy an adaptor plate over the hole with a smaller grommet hole. Other than that, it works fine. Gentlemen, check your grommets!

Messenger13 -- have you also done the High Beam install (H3) bulb. Am considering doing BOTH low and high beam at the same time. Any issues you can see with my plan?
Thanks,
Keir

Randy, one good plastic tab has been working for me this past year. 12K miles with a few front end bottom/outs has not disturbed the bulb. Just rechecked it with my LED flash light looking through the left side of the lense. It has not moved since last May. I agree the bulb flange on mine was also a few thousands thicker than stock.
