I thought I'd be the first to post under the new Canada banner eh! I've noticed there's not a lot of Canadian members online. If anyone's in the southern Ontario area, perhaps we can form a little LT club and have organized rides etc. I'm in Barrie so let me know. Thanks

Hello back at you. I'm in southwestern Manitoba, not very close to you in Barrie. I have also noticed there doesn't seem to be many Canadians on the list but maybe they are all lurkers like me.

Hi! From Sherbrooke Qc, I have in my garage a heap of metal and plastic parts that, when united with missing brothers and sisters, should amount to a 2005 K 1200 LT. My project bike for the long winter, Keep in touch.

I have been lurking on the site for some time now. I live in central Alberta, near Edmonton. I also see few LT's on the road. This site has been a significant help for me to understand my motorcycle. My season is about over. See you on the road in the spring!

Hey me sun, stay where yer at, I'll come to where yer too...O.K. I'm not a real 'baysman' but spent a year in Labrador City working for IOC and have some wonderful memories.
Living in Alexandria, Ont. now but born in N.S. so I am a 'bluenoser' by birth.

Question for Starky...been looking to buy a '05LT and the selection is pretty thin north of the border. Whats the deal on buying one in the States??

I was looking for one here in Sourthern Ontario and also found the pickings very slim and quite expensive.
So... began checking ebay and found what looked like a good deal in Rochester. I wanted to buy from a dealer so that I could also run it through my dealer in Burlington. I let him purchase it and then gave him his mark up and then I feel like I have some recourse when there are problems, certification, etc.
Even with the exchange, dealer mark up, gst, RIV amount ( 182), etc. the bike will still save me approx. $6,000 over what McBride Cycle in Toronto said they sold a used 00 this past summer for with almost the same KM's. (17,500) vs: all in as described $11,000.

There are a lot of these bikes in the US and you should be able to find one in every corner of the country.
Daytona and Orlando BMW dealer (same owner) have alot at any given time.

I think that when the bike was introduced in 99 the exchange was somewhere around 50% against the USD. It is now around 20% (actually 18% when I came across the border with it), which makes the whole proposition more palatable. BMW would probably never drop the price on the bikes to reflect the exchange drop, or maybe it doesn't make any difference because it is coming out of Germany, in any event, there would be more of them if the price was more accessible.
As it is now, they seem to go very quickly when they do come up in Cnada and there are just not alot on the market.

Good Luck and keep me posted.

I found the same thing in Calgary. I saw an 02 LTC at a dealer here but they wanted $20K. I then found an 02 LTC (through this list) complete with matching Unigo trailer and numerous upgrades to the bike. After dollar conversion PLUS the cost of shipping from Halifax to Calgary, I still came out ahead and got a bike set up exactly the way I wanted. My wife and I flew to Virginia this summer to pick up the bike and it was a pleasant adventure riding up the east coast and around Nova Scotia before shipping it back home. Bit of a pain with the Imperial vs. metric on the speedo and trip computer but it was worth the trouble and I will repeat the process for my next bike.

I won't post this in the Classified as it is probably of interest to the Canadians only. I have a 2001 KLT "Highline" model in Pacific Blue with 55K km. for sale at $16,000 Cdn. I am just west of Toronto, send me a PM if you would like further details.

What a great fall were having, One of the best in recent memory. I picked up my LT mid August and already have over 10k on the odo. Just came back from a jaunt through the Muskokas, No traffic! Don't know how much longer this weather will last but I'm certainly taking advantage of it. Perhaps we in ontario can plan a group ride or event for next year over the winter season. BTW this weekend looks like good riding weather!

Sounds like a good idea to see if we can get together for a ride next season.
For me anywhere between montreal and manitoba will work.

I bought my last two BMW's from the States for the reasons that have been noted already, poor selection and high prices. I bought my '02 LT with all the options and a UniGo trailer from a dealer in Wisconson in August. After exchange and GST/PST at the border, still a better buy. Only hassle is dealing with the Registrar of Imported Vehicles -- government bureaucracy at its finest. Love the bike.

My mom and her folks (Bert & Zelpha Dow) were from Magrath, Alberta, Canada...i've got Canadian flag on my helmet and underneath GPS; so, when it's not on (most of the time) I get a lot of comments and questions here in Santa Cruz County, eh?

Well Alexandria Ontario is not very close to anywhere and not far from somewhere...especially if I'm ridin :-).
I'm hoping to do a little 'season strech' this winter. I bought a 'toy trailer', enclosed motorcycle trailer to hopefully head south in late March/early April to the first place that has clean snow free roads, unload and ride, ride, ride. Maybe catch the Smokey Mtns. for a day or two...

A newbie Canuck in Kincardine, ON ( about 1 hr west of Owen Sound or about 2 hrs north of London)

My bike is on order and will not be here until April. I'm getting back into riding after being without a MC for 20 years! My son started into MC racing and this got me started looking at a MC again. I'm looking forward to my first ride on my first BMW in the spring.

Well 'Realwing' you have picked quite a lot of bike to climb back on after 2 decades away from the sport. You are aware I'm sure of the tremendous advances in technology since 1986...None of which have addressed the one thing you WILL notice about the LT....all 800+ pounds of it. Be cautious...
I sold the GL1800 'cause I just got tired of the weight. It was a non-issue above 15mhp but I could maneuver around in my garage at that speed so it was always a threat...
I test drove both the LT and the RT and although the SO voted for the LT, she was still happy on the RT. And since I was the one that had to get it on and off the trailer, in and out of the garage, maneuver it around the parking lots, cottage lawns, gravel driveways, etc, etc. I won :-).
Enjoy the ride and welcome back to the 2 wheel group!!

I was somewhat apprehensive about a big bike (last I owned was a 1972 Honda CB500-4) I test drove the 1200RT, 1200LT and a GW and had no trouble getting my "two wheels" back under me. I felt the most comfortable on the LT.

I mentionned my son is into MC racing and some days on the track are better than others as shown in the attached photo sequence. He races in the National and regional SV650 classes. This sequence was at Mosport, ON. he went down at about 120Km/hr in this sequence. He wasn't hurt here, but later that weekend he missed a shift and went off the end of the straight at 200Km/hr into a gravel trap and wiped out big time (no photos). He badly hurt his knee and raced the next day, but in a lot of pain. When he got home, he found he had fractured his fibula in his right leg. He went on to finish the year with two 4th place finishes and one 3rd place finish in the three series.
This photographer had a very good (and fast) camera!!!

The morale of this story is to wear very good gear!!!!

It is a BIG jump if you have not been on a motorcycle in 20 years. I had been off 28 years, and got back into riding because my son-in-law had a Harley Heritage Soft Tail, and asked me to ride it and keep it up while he was stationed in Korea. Did not want to at first, but after a few rides re-discovered why I liked riding so much in the past. After about 4,000 miles on that, decided I needed my own bike, so started searching and discovered the LT! End of search. Even though I had gotten my motorcyle legs back with the Harley, the LT was another leap up, both in performance, and need to be far more careful at walking speeds. Dropped two demonstrator LTs the same day, with my wife on the back! She still let me get one though. :D

Took a while to get comfortable at slow speeds, but it was so much better than the Harley in EVERY other area that I loved it right away.

Take it easy at slow speeds, NEVER use the front brake at walking speed unless the front wheel is absolutely straight ahead and you are ballanced. Grab the front brake either slightly off balance or with the front wheel turned ANY, and you may have to learn how to pick the big lady back up. :D Other than that, go for it.

Wow, you can see his rear wheel lifted off the tarmac on the first shot. All you who boast about scraping the LT's pegs, be warned.

Ken,

Currently CCR '06 is sold out. To see if any reservations become available, check this thread (http://www.bmwlt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7752) from time to time. It will have registrations that become available as folks find out they cannot make this year's event.

You can find out information about this year's CCR here (http://www.curvecowboyreunion.com/).

Cheers.

CCR is a lot of fun. A few of us Canadians made it out last year to the event. If it sounds interesting and you can spare the time, keep your eyes open for sales of the CCR registrations on the board.

And if you get bored, you can always hop on the bike and ride the 5.5 hrs to Regina to meet some other K1200 fans. There are 2 of us in Regina and another fan is about 1.5 hrs past Regina. The #1 is a bit rough going to Winnipeg, I know 'cause I and the others were just in Winnipeg on the bikes 9 days ago.
