My dog ate my seat. (I still have the dog but he did see the white light at the end of the tunnel.) I want to replace the seat with an after market one. I’d like some recommendations. (I read the threads.) You see, I’m 6’3” and 300 lbs. I’d like feedback only from riders of my “stature.”

While I am not quite of your 'stature', I'm closer than I would like to admit.
I had my seat redone by Rick Mayer and am quite pleased with it after the initial break-in period. Most of the seat rebuilders ask for your vital statistics and adjust the padding accordingly.

+1 Rick Mayer
I have his saddles on the LT and the GS.
BTW, Rick Mayer just may be one of our Vendors for CCR this summer.

I have a Russell Day-Long and am very happy with it. Being a person of your & my stature 6' 280 lbs they offer the heavy weight suspension which really helps support the entire bun area. In my case I can still flat foot with the seat in the high position.

I'm 6'3" and used to be 330 (now 260). I had a custom seat built by Rick Mayer a few years ago For my LT at my heaviest and it was great then, and continues to be now. Great support, all day comfort, no hot spots or forcing you into one seating position. I can highly recommend his services. And he's a really nice guy, too.
Oh, and I picked up a used Rick Mayer seat for my 95 GS. That changed it from a 100 mile/2 hour bike to an all day rider.

While I am more than your "stature",I would recomend the Day-Long over the Mayer. I had a Day-Long on my K1100LT and the Rick Mayer on my 03LT.
I wish I had done the Russell again.

Your dog did you a big favor....send it to Russell for a Daylong.

One more for the Rick Mayer. I can also relate to the dog problem. My wife wanted to keep a stray mutt about 25 years ago. He ate the seat off my bike while it was parked out back for the winter (I was in the U.P of Michigan then). It was the last straw for the bike and the dog.

Seats, very subjective.
Find someone local to you that you can sit on the what ever brand seat for 1/2 hour or more. Bring a book, ipod.......

That's integrity, folks.
Ron, you have piqued my curiosity as to why re recommend a Russell over your own as the right choice for a man of such stature. I'm somewhat shorter and lighter, but no less curious. :)

how much $$$ Russell vs Mayer???
If my feeble memory is acurate I think my Russell front seat was around $375 last summer. That includes shipping and handling etc..

There is pricing, photos, etc at this site. Front seat only I believe is size code "S1". They recommended the "halfmoon" pattern & in my opinion it is a close match to the stock rear seat.
Don't know pricing on Mayer.

Russell uses spring steel leafs in their seats, quite simply they are capable of mechanically supporting a lot more weight than foam. We go to 275 with our design, and that is called a plus plus - with much higher density poly foam and visco. Beyond that Russell is the only choice due to the extremely wide steel supported foam bolsters they incorporate.

i purchased 5the bill mayer saddle. i was given several options for the type of foam used as well as the vital measurements and pictures. besides being very customer friendly i have mad 5 -7000 mile trip and the seat continues to break in with great results, i do not see many on this site using it but they are the original mayer brand. at least see what hey have to offer. they take the original pan and make it to you.

I had my seat re-done at Bill Mayer's last week. I rode in and they built a very nice seat to fit my "wide-body" stature. One they had it just the way we wanted I took it for a short ride to try it out before they put the covering on it. I'm happy with it and wish I had done it 50,000 miles ago!

I have a Russell and the "heavy" support is the only way to go for larger guys. Got one and love it. Rick Mayer and Ron Miller, along with others, make great seats, but to get the heavy support the only real choice is Russell....if you plan on keeping that seat a long time.
