Essential tools? Is there a few ‘must have’ tools for a long trip (first 1000miles)? Spark plug size? Box wrench sizes? Any specialty tool for a fix if I'm broken down along the side the road? The cycle does have the original tool kit that came with the cycle. I know currently I do have a couple extra things I carry with me while riding the cycle I’ve been riding but taking a trip on the BMW K100LT will be new to me and this is my first BMW.
I actual bought this cycle site unseen (by my eyes), a freind of mine talked with the owner, saw the cycle and another BMW enthusiast I trust talked the the owner before I made the purchase. Anyways my first ride will be when I pick the cycle and ride it 1000miles home.
Thanks for your reply's.

Hi Steve,
I think the stock tool kit will get you by, but you might include a tire
fix it, plug it kit, & a small compressor to reinflate a flat. Oh yeah,
don't forget your Visa card.
Welcome to the site. Are you going to Bagley?

Doh Steve,
If it's your 1st Beemer you may not be aware of the BMWMOA.org
website & the Nat'l club. Check it out, Bagley is a rally in Wi.
spitting distance to your location. It's a goood rally.

Bagley? Where? Dates? Is this the rally that is near the Dells in Sept? I have not heard about that one.
Yes, I've found the BMWMOA site and signed up for at least one year to get to know the BMW community. Also thought I would show up for at least one day in West Bend since my BIL lives in the Milwaukee area, an excuse for a trip.

Take a manuel, and BMWMOA card/book.
I have gone with 3/8 socket set, box wrenchs feeler guage, screw drivers, multimeter, extra plug, points etc. (all the stuff I would carry on an HD except in metric)
At the airport, they wanted to know why I was getting on the plane with a crash helmet (prior to 9-11-2001) didn't even ask about the tools and like I said stuff to fix a HD, I could build a space shuttle! ;)
Then the goober that choose to stand at the end of an open x-ray machine 10 hours a day as a career, says "thats the guy from the magazine". Pulls a copy of our rag from somewhere on top of the scanner machine and shows everyone my picture.
Stuff like that had happened many times around the home town so it didn't bother me till later. Then sitting at 30k feet it hit me, this asshole is reading the joke section when he is supposed to be checking bags  .
I have not flown since that day.
I was going to pick up a 74 R90/6, brought it back 1340 miles towing a 1 wheel trailer in 2 days. 2 caps of MOM at each gas fill cleaned the chambers so that I went from 34mpg at start to slightly over 50mpg.

MOM? First thing that came to mind was Milk Of Magnesia. Can't imagine that's helps fuel economy, buy may help how many miles you could ride. :histerica
My enquiring mind wants to know . . . What does MOM stand for in the context you used it in?

Marvel Mystery Oil.
Of course what your talking about could have been used, after I ate.
Thats right folks, I'm 1 of 3 guys in history to order food at a strip club.
