Took the rack off trunk and made brackets to fit stock bolt holes. I think it looks much cleaner now!

That must feel light.
On my recent tear down I handed the boot to my Other half. She admitted that her 'back rest' would seriously effect the weight of the bike. But was NO way letting me omit it from our next trip!

Nice looking job. I have the fort Worth with an attached back rest. This looks just as nice and I bet it's much cheaper too. The top box off is a nice way to ride the LT.

:thumb: Nice! ...and if you want to paint the plastic tray under it (although I think the black looks just fine) to match the rest of your "aluminum" trim here's the correct paint:

and you'll need the clearcoat too...

Nice mod CincyKid. :) Maybe "buckeyes" aren't so useless after all. :D

Yep, I had an LT. Sold it to a forum member. Modded nicely. 45K miles of memories. Now I have over 13K on the GT, with many miles in the pipeline planned for '07. (IF the weather ever changes up here in the snowbelt of Cleveland! :( )
Here's a pic taken the day before I sold my LT.

Great job. That's what a LT should look like to me.
I never ride with the trunk on or two up, just a waterproof BMW bag across the back.
Think I'll do the same.

I see you took off almost all the extra eyeball fryers that you were equipped with. How many do you have on the new bike?
Thanks.

I must apologize for all oops, SOME of my thoughts about you and your bike rants, you do have good taste, at least you got the color right in both cases.
Keep on keeping the rubber side down,

Your Mod Looks good.
I have a fort Worth Rack. I scratch padded the surface to remove the fingerprints, grease etc. and it painted with clear coat.
Then I added a 12" red flexible LED array made by Custom Dynamics their web site is http://www.customdynamics.com/index.htm I also added their dual circuit element and wired it into my running and brake lights.
Either the MOD or the Fort Worth rack sure make the LT look like a sport tourer!

The BMW rack (and the Ztechnik rack) have a weight rating of 5#. Does that still apply in this situation -- the way you have it mounted?

W O W **** That is clean looking and the same color as mine!
My box is gone this weekend !!!
**I have been thinking about taking the box off for some time now -
Where or how did you make the bracket to mount the rack??
Inquiring minds gotta know!!

Hi Mike,
Simply took a piece of 1" flat stock & bent it to fit. The existing frame holes are on 12 1/16" center. Rack threads are 7 3/8" center. Height of front bracket is 1 3/4". Reuse 2 bolts for front bracket to frame. The 2 small brackets are 3/4" flat stock and holes are on 7/8" center. Flat stock is at Home Depot. Painted flat black enamel. Took about 2 hrs.

Howard,
Much stiffer now than before. I'd feel comfortable putting 20-30 # on it. Getting the weight down that much further makes a BIG change in handling, especially for those of us who are vertically challenged!

I removed the trunk and top rack. I then made a base out of walnut and attached the top rack and reconnected the stop lights. I really like the way it handles now.

I think we may have the first LT "Woody"! :rotf:
Looks GREAT!! (I would have preferred Ebony, however that one board alone would probably be worth as much as an LT...) ;)

That look sstunning, soecially with the colour bike you have.
Don't think it would look quite as good on my silver one though.

You may have a new line of work ready for you: custom Ft. Worth-style racks. They could be made of all the newer countertop materials: granite, slate, Corian, etc.
