Won my little battle with Carole Nash over having to take out a new insurance policy for the new bike (k1200LT SE) when the other one still had loads left to run after the FJR was written off. They backed down and admitted it was their mistake, so new policy is cancelled, old one re-installed and Malki is £400 better off ;o) until April at least, then they'll probably nail me to the ground :D

Good news. Remember: they're just the agent. Who's the underwriter? Do you have protected NCB?

Hastings is the insurance company, it was them that set the ball rolling by writing to me, telling me when I replace my bike, just let them know and it can be added to my current policy. Hence the call to Carole Nash. No it was not protected, never knew there was such a thing with a motorcycle policy, I have it with the cars though, certainly has never been offered to me, but then again I have never asked. I have taken out GAP insurance with this new bike.

I've just signed up for Protected NCB this year, as I felt 5 years was worth protecting. Not sure if it can be done before 5 years. Increased the premium from £272.58 to £289.53, but means I am 'allowed' two claims in five years.

Hi David
I got dropped from 7yrs to 3yrs which is not as bad as I thought it might be, but still a bummer that this will stick with me for 5 rs. My first claim in 32 years.
Who are you insured with?

Malcolm - I'm insured with Royal & Sun Alliance via Carole Nash. £350 excess (which I thought was high but was told is the lowest on the market).

Just been refunded by Carole Nash (twice) once on my credit card yesterday, and another by cheque today. I did phone them and point out the mistake.
Annoying that they seem to be making an awful lot of mistakes recently, but they seem to deal with it OK on a freephone number.
Got a letter addressed to me yesterday, but included another guy's insurance certificates for a good few bikes. Got my own in today tho. Just makes you wonder how many folks are dealing with the one claim!

What does Protected NCB stand for, and what do you get?.

Protected No Claims Bonus...pretty standard with car policies now, but not so common with bikes...means that you can have a few claims (depending on the insurance company) before you lose your No Claims Bonus. I don't have it with the bike, but looking into it. My car policy allows me 5 claims before they boot me out and tell me to look elsewhere...luckily not had any so far ;o)
In the Uk probably about £30 extra...depends on the company.
