Has anyone put the Ohlins steering stabilizer on there bike? my stock damper is shot and the dealer wants about 300 coconuts for a new one.
I like the Ohlins universal because it is adjustable just like the shocks, I did all the measurement and come up with the OHSD115 as the one? I would like to see if someone has install this one on a LT or RS same OE part number.
I see some riders have installed the Hyperpro with good luck and this unit is adjustable too. And this unit is made for LT's and RS's.
Thanks James.

Haven't had the need to replace mine yet. Give us a product review and cost savings. Thanks.

How do you know that the damper is shot?
If you turn the steering all the way to the left and to the right, several times......not fast....but not real slow either.......then do it real fast, you'll hit a "wall" so to speak, and it'll slow way down.....can you feel it? Compare it to another, newer bike.........any difference? If the newer bike feels "stiffer".....then yes you may be in the need.

Good for you! I love the top-of-the-line Hyperpro dampers!
If you get the Hyperpro try to get the one with the VERY progressive damping, not the cheaper constant-rate one (though of course an orifice is not really constant-rate anyway as it approaches its flow limits). I just LOVED the very-progressive Hyperpro on my old sportbike. IMHO the damper is part of why the LT is such a handful to maneuver at really slow speeds (high CG too). On my Suzuki TL1000S or TL1000R, both with reputations for instability, the Hyperpro helped when needed BUT DIDN"T INTERFERE WHEN NOT NEEDED. Much easier low-speed maneuvers! But one complication on the K1200LT is that you don't just only need protection from major tank-slappers and tail-waggers like a sportbike, you also need some constant damping so that even slow small oscillations damp out instead of building up. The natural rate of the LT's waggle is pretty slow compared to smaller bikes. Without any damper at all my year 2000 LT isn't very stable, it's OK no-handed until the smallest bump (or hit the bars with your fist), then a small oscillation builds until you grab the bars again. Was pretty bad when my stock damper was shot too, waggled as far as the play in the damper (due to loss of fluid?) would let it. So even with the very-progressive damper I'd adjust it for some constant damping too, unless you never take your hands off the bars at all.
On my sportbikes, my old retired race bike came with an Ohlins on it. I really much prefer the Hyperpro.
I'd really love an adjustable unit that could be adjusted en-route. A Scotts rotary at the head would be easily adjustable, but IMHO the K1200LT tree isn't a great place for mounting the damper to, the upper part of the fork isn't very rigid anyway, with the top of each tube having its own ball joint where it mounts to the triple clamp. Maybe an electric damper like the Honda, which would dampen more with speed, might be ideal.
BTW there are places that rebuild the stock one...but I'll be darned if I know where.

I was under the impression that Ohlins don´t make steering dampers for BMW´s.

What I feel is when in a turn (leaning) if I get any suspension movement the bar shake, a very uneasy feeling. And yes when moving the bars back and forth with the bike sitting the is no Resistance, and over time I have seen the fluid leak out of the stabilizer. I think I am going to go with the hyper pro just because I here it will fit the K1200lt over I have not confirmed the Ohlin's will?

Hey, Malcolm, where did you get it and how much? My stock damper is leaking, although still functional for now.

Thanks Malcolm. I went ahead and ordered the active Hyperpro. Looking forward to trying it.

I think you'll like it. Have you replaced your OEM shocks yet? The combo of the new shocks and damper on mine is awesome. The problem with suspension parts is that they fade so gradually over time you tend not to notice until you replace them, and then wow.

Still have the stock shocks. Since the top case latch busted the other day, I'm having to order one of zotter's machined latch assemblies. Shocks is on the list for future upgrade!
The Hyperpro came UPS yesterday - will start on that tonite!

I just called them and ordered the Polished Active damper, $269 with mounting kit, they were very nice. It should be here late next week, this will complete my LT's extreem makeover!
