Got caught in it this afternoon, after leaving shop and my break-in service.
What a hoot, dodging construction barrier barrels, :eek: and pieces of about anything you can think of getting blown all over the place, including me ! :crazy:
Arrived safely at our fav sports bar and waited it out over coffee, pizza and
good conversation ! :beer:
I must say the GT handled the wind gusts fairly well, except for when the fairing acted as a sail, when catching wind gusts at every cross street coming from the west !
It powers out of that laterial movement very nicely !

It was windy as hell down here, too. I washed the GT for the first time and took her for a dry off spin, which might have been unecessary, could have left her just sitting in the driveway for a blow dry. What a pain to clean, all them angles and crevices. Put a coat of Crystal Polish on her and prolly spent a couple of hours.
The LT is much easier to clean, but the GT is a much better bike. Good thang I don't wash bikes much.

For those not from this part of the country, the Land Of Gar as I call it is right outside of Dallas much like Richardson or Plano. We had wind guts yesterday that would have sent Burt Reynold's toupee flying in to Oklahoma! Sustained some roof damage to a few structures out on property I own in the Texas Hill Country (Evant, TX). Hope the Koffee Kup Kafe is still standing, Dick! :)
Yesterday afternoon the outside took on a decided orange tint which had me running to close windows! It was not fit to do much of anything save watch nature take care of some pruning on my creek lot....
Glad to hear that the new GT was unscathed. I gotta see this bike up close Jim. Promise I won't drool! :D

David

i live in east dallas near white rock lake...rode to carrollton on my heritage softail classic and test rode some harleys...my RT sat for the day...the ride to the west was challenging with many gusts of 40 mph or greater...felt it most on my full face helmet...bike handled it great...the ride home was MUCH better since the wind was basically behind us...i hope all that dirt from west texas landed in louisiana to help bolster the levys!...since i have the GT in mind as my next significant ride, i am curious about the comment about the side gusts catching the faring, et al...i had a 2002 LT for 3 years and 35K miles without ever feeling that descriptive experience...is it because of the weight/center of gravity combination?...i would like to hear others comment on this situation with the GT...also, do you have the big trunk on the back?

Mainly due to lower weight of GT compared to that of the LT....
Makes a big diff....
GT = About 680 wet ? (est)
LT was closer to about 835 wet ? (est)
It was no big deal, just have to expect and be prepared to compensate, and/or have room to compensate for that unexpected laterial movement ! My LT got pushed every now and then, but very infrequently !

In my neck of the woods we have some mighty gusts! Good to know the GT does so well.
