Satisfactory Survey for Rick Mayer seats...
I am considering seats made by Rick Mayer, for the rider and passenger.
I would have to send my seats and pictures, instructions to him.
Can someone tell me, how satisfyed you were with comfort and quality.
Did the seats turned out to bee, like you expected them?

I have TWO Rick Mayer Saddles and love them both.
Rick's Customer Service is second to none.

I sent the LT seat in with photos & comments and he built it quickly and perfectly the first time. Been riding now for 70,000 of the 100,000 miles on the LT.

I road the 06 GS Adventure to his place last 4th of July and he built the saddle for me in about 3 hours.

I recently sent the GS Saddle back for some adjustments and to replace the Vinyl cover with Leather.

I got it back Monday and have ridden it a few times so far and the saddle is perfect.

He will send you a spare seat to use while he's building your's.

Just my two cents worth.

Micky,

When I had my LT, I sent my seat to Rick Mayer. Service was great and the seat was absolutely awesome. Now I have an R1200RT which is perfect for me. However, the stock seat, in my opinion, eliminates the need for a vasectomy. I immediately put on a Sargent's seat and although it is all right it does not compare to the Rick Mayer seat in both comfort and looks. He also put leather on the seat which is wonderful.

Now I have a decision to make. I will either send my Sargent seat to Rick Mayer or try the Kontour seat. I haven't made up my mind yet.

BTW, I also tried (bought) the low seat for the RT. I rode it for 750 miles and determined that all sex offenders should be required to sit in one for a few hundred miles----that sucker dang near neuters a guy.

I have read a lot of good things about Ron and his Kontour seats. Maybe someone can chime in with some good info on that one.

Another BTW: The Rick Mayer leather seat extended my riding day dramatically. Before Rick, three hundred miles was tough. After Rick, my longest day was 1,013 miles and my butt was not the part of the body that was worn out.

I hope this helps.

I can only repeat what Dave already said. I am on my second Rick Mayer seat. The first LT had one and this one literally got the new saddle via ride in on the second day of ownership!

I don't believe you can go wrong with a Rick Mayer saddle.

Welcome to the forum, you'll find quite a few Rick Mayer fans on this forum his work has been well documented here, if you'll look toward the top of this page you'll see a blue bar with the word search, type his name into the little drop down box and you'll find enough information to keep you busy for the next several hours and more than enough to help you make an informed decision.

Howdy Micky,

You're about 600 miles from from Rick's place... you could ride down Friday. Meet Rick Saturday morning to build your seat and scoot home that night while "breaking in" your new seat :)

Rather than sending in pictures and such to get a custom seat you should look into getting a seat made for you in person. I have used Rich's Custom Seats in Seattle http://www.richscustomseats.com/ and have been very satisfied. I know many other people who say the same thing. He also rides an LT in iron butt events so he know the bike very well.

Thank you for all your response.
I love the way Larry described the factory seats.
Otto, I had Rich made me seats on my two previous R bikes.
He is very good and I love the seats he made for me.
Rick Mayer charges a lot less than Rich does.
My other problem is that my LT is St George, Utah, where I have a
second home for the winter. I intend to leave my LT here. I will be in my
Seattle residence during the summer, where I keep my RT.
I probably take the LT seats, not the bike, with me to Seattle at the
end of March. I will have Rich make me seats, or send them to Rick Mayer.
If I decide to have Rich make my seats, it will cost me 58 percent more.

I would agree. Last November I sent my BMW low profile seat to Russell but was not happy with the results. They eventually put it back to stock (after the two mandatory alteration attempts, $100 in shipping costs, and over 3 months without a ride). I assume they just couldn't figure out how to make their design work with my low profile seat pan... and my butt  I'm fairly sure they could have figured out the problem if I had shown up in person.

Micky,

May the seat of your dreams be under your butt soon. :)

Since your bike is in St George and you are thinking of a new seat, why not consider Ron's Kon Tour Seat product?
Tuscon is a hop skip and jump away - or, you can mail it to him.
PS, I am not Ron's advertising alter-ego.
Thank you for all your response.

I don't have mine yet, but it is ordered. They are on sale right now and I got my manufactuer date for mine this week. 4.24.07. Long time off which means he's getting busy.
I have read loads of good reports and only a couple of negatives. I had been thinking about it for the last two years.

I have been debating on commenting on the experience I have had with Rick Mayer Cycle...Yes, he makes a great seat if you are tall enough...I am not tall enough and since he did not design the 800 lb bike I bought, I am out of luck and a few hundred bucks in shipping and no freaking ride. I have resorted to ordering another low profile seat from BMW so that I can send one of the two to another seat maker that has the time to listen and make the seat I want...I am sorry to say but this has been a nightmare experience, and I am not willing to deal with comstraints. As I said, the seat is great on your butt, I went 854 the second day on his seat without any discomfort, but when I am back on my freaking tiptoes, that is a huge problem. Especially if I tell you that is one of the three things I am looking for: I had a time constraint during to lack of planning on my part, that the seat be comfortable and that I be able to foot the bike like I can with the low profile seat. I found that just because you ordered something does not need that you will get it. Hell I am still waiting for the cover that I ordered the first time around. Make sure that you have Rick send you samples of the leather color you pick. Way different color shade than the website, but then after two different times that Rick told me he would have samples sent, they never can. Yeah, I am a bit miffed still, not to mention pissed. I sent him the low profile seat so he would see want I wanted and needed (as yall know it is NOT fun picking up the 800 lb bike that he did not design that I bought) with no success. I guess I am not aware of what goes into to building a custom seat...I guess I am not aware of nice looking leather...I guess I have a tree in the back of the yard that has money growing on it....or I guess I am just too picky...(Damn, I need to finish this cause I can feel my blood pressure going up again)...It has been my experience that if you are taller than say 5'10" maybe, Rick has a seat for you...but for the shorter people I would, as I am doing now, look elsewhere...Mike and TT...

I must be one of the lucky ones.... 5' 10 1/2"... and my RM seat is pretty comfortable. I agree it can be difficult trying to deal with him (from a distance) but in the end (:rotf: ) I got what I needed.... a much more comfortable ride.. :D

Anyone want to buy (http://www.bmwlt.com/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=241) a good 2005 stock seat to get converted? Price negotiable before it hits Ebay...

I just made a ride in appointment for a custom Russell Day Long seat for April. As soon as I can I will give a report on it. :)

I had decided to have my seat done by Rick Mayer. To make a long story short, the 2nd half of February, they deleted their offer to have seats sent in by Feb. 29th done by APRIL 1, which didn't sound too good anyway.
I called Rocky (Bill) Mayer to ask about the alligator saddle on his website. He called back himself to tell me that was his personal bike and he recommended against the texture because it became slippery.
He promised 4 day turnaround, and was as good as his word. The dual seat looks good, and while I haven't put in a long enough ride yet to know for sure, on a 100+ mile ride, it feels like it will eliminate the pain the stock seat gave me in the buttbones.
It is taller than I would have liked, but I told them on the form I filled out that I'd rather deal with height than with pain!
Bill Mayer's people answered every e-mail quickly, did everything they were asked, including handling expedited shipping (at my cost), in short made for a very satisfactory transaction.
