Covered DIN sockets.

Hi folks,
Has anybody ever come across a 7 pin surface mount (chassis mount) DIN plug that was waterproof or with a cover similar to the powerlet sockets? I'm looking to permanently mount my Autocom Pro 7 to the bike and don't want loose helmet connectors hanging.
Been searching the internet all day - no joy. Any help would be appreciated.

Autocom probably sells exactly what you are looking for.

Thanks, but I phoned Autocom and they don't sell them, saying it's not legal for them to do so, something to do with not disconnecting quick enough should should you come off. They would not even tell me who did sell them, even though they admitted they 'were' available. I've checked with online electrical suppliers, even those in the boating world, just can't find a covered one, same as the standard Powerlet, the open ones are only pennies, but hardly water resistant.

Raffy, thanks, but tried them, it's a 7 pin audio DIN female i'm looking for, preferrably one with a cover that can be surface mounted. They don't do them.
Did I read a post in here somewhere about someone drilling the guts out of a female Powerlet socket and using that for the Autocom lead? Can't seem to find it again, but then again maybe I was dreaming :rolleyes:

Someone drilled out the standard BMW Powerlet and put a DIN socket in it. The Jastek site Raffy pointed you to has the covered Powerlet sockets cheaper than BMW.

I don't mean to hijack this thread but along the same line,,, Does anyone know where I can get mini din flush mount outlets and extentions? (Starcom system)

This place has a bunch of nice flush mount options but getting a cap on it may be the challange. I'm not sure which one is for the 7 pin Autocom.(i have the 5 pin) Maybe the powerlet cap can be made to work.

The 2005 LT forward audio plug is just that.Factory fitted to the left tank plastic. realoem.com has the part in the radio section ( Voice II ) # 7 but not sure if that would be compatable or how much. Cheers

I have done a little more research and have verified that the powerlet and the recepticles are both 18mm outside thread so the cap should work. I am not saying that it will make them waterproof, just covered.

I may try this out myself. It would only cost 6.95 + 3.85 shipping for the lid and 8.15 + shipping for the recepticle:

I think I have found the solution in the following parts, not sure, not bought and tried them yet, but not for ordering Powerlet kit in the UK as it is extraordinarliy expensive! I ordered two male plugs the other day from the one and only dealer in the UK not even thinking about the price and got well stung at £31, I think thats over $50 :o

The realoem.com page does not list the price so I entered the part number at www.maxbmwmotorcycles.com and it is $41.50 and that is for the voice II. Not sure if it is the same as the AutoCom 7 pin din.

Sorry, I had not noticed that you were in the UK. It looks like your solution should work as long as the cap fits over a 18mm thread. You might try the BMW part # 65737689853 but like I said, not sure if it will work for the AutoCom. When typing in a post or reply, there is an icon just above the text box that shows a globe with a chain link at the bottom http://www.bmwlt.com/forums/images/editor/createlink.gif.
