I'm new to BMWs but not to motorcycles, or motorcycle dealers. I live in Austin, where the mostly beloved Lone Star BMW/Triumph is. I have nothing but good things to say about Lone Star, but I didn't buy a bike from them.

I wanted an R1200RT, and they made me a very reasonable offer on a new one, but I found an '06 at Sandia, with 1150 miles on it, with much more equipment...ESA, heated everything, etc.

But it's not the bike, it's the dealership experience I want to share. Dean Jones, the sales manager, couldn't have been easier to deal with. Straight talk, no baloney, everything went exactly as I wanted it to. I had them add an Autocom system, and when I got home the tech had installed all the leads backwards...rider to pillion and vice versa. I griped about it, in an email, and Dean quickly offered to refund a substantial portion of the labor charge...to a customer he will never, ever see again.

I think I got a really great deal on the price, and I have nothing but high praise for my dealings with Dean. The dealership is new, and is very nice.

I'm glad to hear you think well of Sandia BMW.
I bought my R1200GS from Sandia. I like and respect Dean and the General manager, Jim Johnson. They are sincere people!
It was my misfortune to get hit by a car while on the GS, so it is in for repair. The parts and service staff are professional and friendly. If Sandia keeps it up, they will become one of the premier dealers in the U.S.A.

BTW, Torsten at Santa Fe BMW (same owners as Sandia BMW) is great guy as well.

I recommend buying from either dealership.

I'll add my 2 cents worth. I had a very good experience last Summer with the service department at Sandia BMW. I was on my first long trip as a new owner of an 05 LT and was having difficulty reading the oil gauge. I took it in and they couldn't read it either. Come to find out I was over a quart low. Duh. Who da thunk the think would burn so much oil in 1700 miles. Anyway, they topped me off and let me go with no charge. Yes, no charge. I was impressed and I learned something about new BMW motor oil consumption. Hardly uses any now with 16K miles.
